Holloway

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

The proof of Holloway as a manager & whether this is a fluke, would come if he could either sort their defence out next season, repeat the same thing at another club or get Blackpool promoted again playing the same way when they're eventually relegated.

I'd hold my hands up if he did any of those things but I recon he'll fail on all counts. Well done to him & the players for what they've done though. Great entertainment & some genuine quality football. Makes you wonder what top managers could achieve if they built their teams to concentrate attacking 1st rather than defending. They would be sacked before it clicked though unfortunately.

I make a topic about how I like Holloway, where you come and say you like him, and feel that you need to put tin hat on??
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

tin hats are fashionable these days ...

I'm on the fence about holloway, sometimes I like him, sometimes I find him quite annoying. He has to have an opinion on everything. I do think his attitude towards the press is refreshing however. He's just an eccentric. I can't imagine what being a player for him would be like ... probably has it's ups and downs.

I wear a tin hat because it stops the aliens from reading my thoughts.

I think there are a few good British managers still about that can do jobs for certain types of teams. Holloway, Hughes, Hodgeson, Warnock, Coyle, Alladyce even.

However I now get the feeling that the gulf between a manging Blackpool, Bolton etc and managing a team like City, Spurs, United is bigger than it's even been before.

Case in point are Hughes & Hodgeson. Flurished at smaller clubs but failed to live up their high reputation at bigger teams. Press releases and articles always seemed to portray these managers doing things differently on a small scale and constantly working on the training pitch. Trying to instill what made them good in the firstplace at new, bigger clubs (and signing all their old players too!).

However by being too focused on the smaller things, the little changes, these managers were oblivious to the bigger picture. I mean why the fuck would anyone buy Paul Konchesky? For Liverpool?!?! Hodgeson did not see the bigger picture. He was unaware that there was a world of left backs out there. I'm aware he was in charge of Inter but times have clearly changed since then.

Certain people can manage a corner shop but put them in a supermarket and they will simply fail to deliver on the same level.

I used to like him, but I think he's a fucking idiot ever since he started taking himself seriously and wanting to tell the world how football should be run.

I was delighted when he took them up, because I used to find him funny on interview and on Soccer AM... and of course because he enforced attacking football, but by God he's talked some fucking trip since then.

Yeah, but NOW he's funny cause he thinks he is making sense.
