You can actually level some criticism at City's management and players without being bombarded by legions of mods and happy clappers telling you you're wrong, and that you are, in fact, a Rag. Actually, I don't even know who the mods are... Long may it continue.
Five years on from joining, I'm beginning to think MCF is the place for the most honest City debate. Mind you, I'm biased. I'm a miserable sod ;)
I loved the Micah hug. He's the closest I have to a hero at City.

I hope he goes on to continue to keep his head down and concentrate and keep improving. he is back to what his promise showed years ago and now he has both the experience and a new aptitude he could carry on improving to be THE outstanding RB in the prem.
In relation to others in the team, it is worth pointing out that Micah is both prem experienced and wasn't bought in. Two things in my view that make it a bit easier for the coaching staff and Mancini to deal with lack of application etc etc. IMO we will have to be patient and wait to see the best of Kolarov, Yaya, Balotelli, Dzeko, Boateng etc. IMO there are some things that cannot be forced or rushed especially with new players. Give Mancini a pre-season to work on the defective or downsides of each of those players and I rekon we will see a lot of improvement during the subsequent season as details are put into practice and time allows for the dealing with players attitudes.
AJ, Micah, Zabba, deJong and to some extent Lescott have improved under Mancini's regime over the longer term.. i dont feel it is over optimistic to get a sense that will continue with the players brought in.. given the right time scale.
I would like to see us bring in a quality, fast, left back. It's a squad game so there'd still be plenty of games for Kolarov to play (if he does improve) & then, if he does turn out to be a fantastic player, he can become 1st choice left back, or if that doesn't happen & he's not happy to be 2nd choice he can move on. Vice versa, if the new man isn't happy that Kolarov gets 1st place, he can move on instead. Competition with a genuine quality left back is needed, not just with Zabba playing out of position.
I get the feeling that Kolarov's going to "do an Evra." There are definite signs of improvement. I'd play him in all the unimportant away games and all the home games.
But Zab has to start at LB in the semi.
I can't see this improvement of which you speak. Having just watched a rerun of the full game, the only time in 90 mins that he got near to stopping his man, was when the bloke trod on the ball & fell over. As Carl says; he turned his back on every cross. He also came for headers he had no chance of wining, leaving a big empty space down the wing behind him when he was inevitably beaten. The pre match interview by the reading manager said they were 'targeting' certain players. All the commentators & panel automatically knew he meant Kolarov.

Nice bloke, reasonable footballer, good left foot, excellent set pieces, bit of a shit defender.
If he's in the first team there he's much better off than he would be as 3rd/4th choice LB here. With the slower pace and the deeper back line of the Italian league I'd imagine he's doing OK.

A good comparison is Evra. Total shit when he first came.[/highlight] We have the luxury of ring able to give players a bit more time these days, so let's do that and support them. I agree with hug that it's great to have honest criticism and be able to discuss it... We just need to stay away from hateful bashing that we seem to be drawn towards some times. Kolarov might not come good, he might become a world beater ... But let's give him a chance, and give bobby a chance to work with him.
What I was saying before, I think it's hard to see improvement at this point in kolarovs case because of the inconsistency of his game at the moment. I do think he is improving, but I don't think it's something you will necessarily see when viewed on a game by game basis

I think he had to mature a little bit before he was ready to be coached. I think we had an environment previously where it was easy for a talent youngster to be bigger than the club, because they represented so much potential for the club to improve. Now that is not the case. Micah is benefitting as much from the club maturing as he is from his own maturation. Very pleased forbhimband ibthinkbhe should be starting rb for England at this point, Tal Ben Haim.

I would put it down to a certain degree of growing up although with Micah he will always have a big kid in him.Interesting thought that about needing to mature before he was ready to be coached.I have virtually never seen him coached in the art of full back play in the last 18 months whereas he got plenty in the two years prior to that.

What of the rumours that he doesn't want to let down his hero Vieira?

Crap I would say. I don't buy into that one. he wants to play well pure and simple for the team so he always gets selected and ultimately so he gets in the England team
