Sorry, this annoys me a little too......we shouldn't congratulate ourselves for basic human compassion. It should just be normal.

By saying things like that it kinda implies that we're doing it just to look good. It almost implies too that there's a kinda 'look at us being so good and saying nice things DESPITE him being a dirty fucking rag fucker' undertone to it - which is wrong. It should not even be considered that he once played for united.

No offence meant, Craig - genuinely sure you meant no harm. It just touched a nerve about the whole munich celebration thing for me. I found how we sang about behaving well during the minute's silence incredibly embarrassing. It just doesn't make the thing seem sincere at all.....

I love the holier than thou brigade when stuff like this happens

Listen..call me scum..but I wouldn't give a flying fuck if Robsons brain exploded and he faceplanted his cornflakes tomorrow morning

I don't fucking know him personally so you're pissing in the wind with your fake sympathy

Reminds me of when Jade Goody died..never seen so many hypocrites..

I can't stand the geordie red twat..and whilst in hindsight..I wouldn't waste jelly and ice cream on him..I certainly won't be crying myself to sleep

cheers

Would the posters expressing sympathy have the same opinion if this was Keane, Fergie or Neville?

Don't particularly wish Robson any harm, but equally don't give a shit really - obnoxious twat on the pitch and an arrogant twat off it.

I'd like to think I'd maintain a dignified silence.

I don't like any of the four people in question but I would never get jollies from the news that anyone has cancer.

"Jelly and ice cream when Fergie dies" is different. He doesn't have cancer. Bryan Robson does.

I read the story on BBC before I came on here and had forgotten about it by the time the thread popped up. Won't lose sleep over it but I also don't find it particularly funny.

This. It's one thing to not be arsed about someone dying (and therefore ignoring the thread) but to celebrate it is pretty pathetic in my book.

Wish him luck with his recovery.

Know where folk are coming from with the sympathy thing, when Jade Goodie died I couldn't give a shit, for a moment I maybe thought' poor lass to die so young' then the moment was gone and all I could think of was all the hypocrites who were probably calling her a gob shite before she got cancer. Just as I wasn't fucked up when Princess Di, Michael Jackson and Bob Monkhouse passed away. I don't know them personally so not going to get maudy over it, feel for them but just same as if a friend of a friend says they've lost a mate who i don't know with it. More sorry for Mabel down the road who I do know, who as it (she doesn't, there is NO Mabel, but you get the gist).

I'm not having a go at either Beeks or Craig, but in my opinion that song is a bit inappropriate when talking about a 50 year-old bloke who's just been diagnosed with cancer. But whatever.

You always know that one or two of the less intelligent posters are going to make snide remarks about former United players.

The guy could devote his whole life to charity and these stupid, ignorant, childish pricks would pipe up with their 'controversial' comments.

The guy has cancer ffs and is human. Good luck to him and I wish his family as well as his children all the best.

I think the problem is that this news does not really have a place on a mainstream CITY forum.

I mean no disrespect to Robson - but he was not a CITY player

If the thread gets started it invites comments - such things are always sad to the people involved - but this particular situation is not really any of our 'mainstream business'
