You know when you used to go on holiday and you had to put your dog in quaratine for 6 weeks, that mirrors Shaun's career. The dog's bollox in the main and then he goes on holiday for two years and when you get him back you think ....

This is not my dog.

Nice sentiment and all that, but you cant keep a guy based on him being a nice chap. Ability wise he's on the wane, and that contract nonsense last season and being "mugged off" at £65k a week? Do me a f****n favour.

Best days in the rear view mirror; wish him luck but no room for sentimentality here.

Not good enough by a long, long way for where we are now heading. I'd be more than happy to keep him at the club if he's happy to be a squad player and playing in the Carling Cup. However, I reckon he'll be Fulham bound in the summer.

And who would you like to do your eulogy LOL

I doubt he will be here next season, yes I admit I would like him as a squad player for at least another season, being honest I would rather see him play for another reasonable team ALA Fulham rather than be a very occasional bit part at ours.

Just not so keen on posters on here dismissing like he was Shit on the sole of their shoe?

That by the way is not a direct pop at you 103!!

Absolutely dire as usual. Amazes me how anyone can think losing the ball all the time is what is required at our new-found level. Quite the opposite in fact, it is imperative NOT to lose the ball.

Let's not exagerate. There was that break down the middle where he laid a great ball for Milner to score but he was brought down for a free kick right on the edge.

It's important that with the direction we're taking, we don't lose sight of the values of respect we've always had. Just because he's not in the bracket we require for where we're going doesn't mean we can't show him how much he meant to us, assuming he leaves, with a fantastic send off on Sunday and Monday next week. It's similar to Dunnie, who put in years of fantastic service and commitment, but is a long way from the quality we need.

His 4th against the filth is still my favourite ever goal at Eastlands.

Final charge perhaps for Manchester City.

my reading is that he is defo gone - and he knows it

This could be seen by his bpdy langage when he came on - looked really sad - I think that when he was asking to take the free kick he mentioned something to Tevez about last game - and the way he wsa holding the banner with his mate Micah - all points to it

I would not wish to bad-mouth him - would rather remember the good times - I just wonder what Sunday lunch has been like with his step-dad these last months after the advice and comments that saw Shaun reject a good final career contract that would have seen him earn well for years and get some trophies - he will now find out just how good an offer that perhaps was

I wouldn't want to bad-mouth the fella. But the simple fact is he isn't good enough anymore, and I'm not sure he really was at the top for Chelsea either.

It's difficult to marry our loving folksy traditions with our ambition, but the minute we let sentiment get in the way is the minute we start to fail. All Champion teams have discarded players littered along the way. It's a fact of life, be it sad or not.

He's had his good times, he's had a very good career, and I'm sure he'll do well yet again at somewhere like Norwich. Or maybe better down in the Championship. And good luck to him.

We need SWP IMO

Bob on, Bob.

I feel he will prove his value again and still has lot to offer for us. Especially as change of pace player.

SWP is one of my all time City heroes. The way some people talk about him makes my heart bleed.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

That was definitely his last game at Eastlands,it was the only reason he was used last night. The reality is,we have progressed from the level of SWP,having lost some of that blistering pace he is simply no longer good enough for a top four team, last nights cameo was at times painful to watch.I wish him well at Fulham.

Hate to say it but I think that was the last time we'll see him in a city shirt at eastlands. He is one of my all time favourite city players for his 100% committment to the cause, never-say-die attitude and moments of brilliance but unfortunately his best days are behind him. His cameo sub appearance last night proved this as he constantly gave the ball away despite getting into good positions. Bye bye shauny, I'll miss your right-wing floaters into the box

Just pointing out that you were wrong with your "losing the ball all the time" statement.Maybe you are worong that he is finished at City?
I am suggesting he is close to a first choice starter anymore but with the quotas we have to fill and the number of games we will be playing it's good to have the likes of SWP in the ranks. He can still do a decent job and it isn't all about being brilliant all the time as we know with AJ who is probably all about flashes of quality rather than a sustained game. SWP does put in a good stint every time he plays and does a good job in the defensive part of his game.

I would be very interested to know whther he would prefer to go for a more gteed starting slot at a lower club or stay with City if he can to be a squad player.

I'm with you on this Doug. And for what it's worth, I don't think A J does much that Sweep can't.
As others have pointed out, he needs confidence and a run which he hasn't had. Can still make things happen and is also 'one of us'. Having said all that, it did look like he was saying his goodbyes. Still love him. Hope he stays.

I think in all seriousness given the comments his dad made about his contract n how he tried to humiliate city as a club in the media n try to force our arm by showing us up it actually back fired cos although he was once great facts are now he is a bit shit n given whats gone on the best thing for all concerned is if we actually were to shove him right up his dads arse the cunt. Fuck em both now fuck off n go n moan to somebody else cos you got us mixed up with someone that gives a shit
