Clough was underachiever. He was far from WORST ever player for us imo. I think he'd been in discussion if this was about worst ever buy. Even in that department Jo and RSC are both WELL ahead of him.

Clough was well known for staying away from where ever the ball was. The ball was on the right, he'd start moving over to the left, the ball was going forward and he'd stay back. The guy was shit scared of making a mistake!

As a coach I teach my kids to find space and often tell them that the most intelligent fella on the park is the one who has made themselves available and is in space to receive the ball, I will have a re-think as clough was fucking garbage :-)

Be as it may, he was good player for Forest and had fantastic natural talent. I'm not saying he was good for us, far from it. He was shite. But I don't think you can even compare say Gareth Taylor to Nigel Clough. Other one was underachiever with talent, other one was, well marginally better than me at football.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

As soon as KK gets home, he will wade in with both feet on the Clough debate, I think he still has a voodoo doll of him. Its safe to say that KK's love for Clough can be put into the same section as his love for Isaksson :-)

I don't know how bad he really was but sure made me laugh... Sun Jihi

Of course being an American I was all excited when we got DeMarcus Beasley, but as far as I can tell he never showed up.

Funnily enough, I liked Demarcus Beasley and think he would have made a good career at City if he could have gained around 8 stone to help him keep the ball.

Robert Hopkins, not Bob you understand, ROBERT! Same season as Trevor Christie (1986?7?) We were so skint at the time, many came on frees or loans!
Hopkins signed for us from one of the Brum clubs (West Brom?) and within two months had requested a transfer back as he "missed his family" - all of 70 miles or so away! He mustve seen the writing on the wall! Got sent to Birmingham City, I think, could be the other way around though! We got relegated!

That is pretty sad observation in the sense he was probably a top 5 player while he was here.

Who is the worst player you recall seeing play for City?

I've seen some dross but, by a country mile, the worst has to be Roy Gratrix (Doug will no doubt remember him).

Give him a 20 yard start in a 15 yard race and he'd still come in last.

Most odd player?

For me, Vic Gomersall.
A left back who had a pot belly of a size to make a pregnant woman wince, and yet was surprisingly fleet of foot. Looked funny as fuck as he 'bounced' his way up and down the wing.

I remember the name Gratrix but not the player.

I do remember Vic Gomersall though. He was mates with Waggy and I was in the same hotel as them on holiday once.Enjoyed playing football in the swimming pool with them.

Gerry Creaney was probably my top shitehouse. Lee Bradbury and Steve Daley (for the money we paid) were absolute dogshit.

Other classics Rae Ingram, Rae Kelly, David Brightwell, Barry Conlon, Bill Williams (homesick for Stockport), Terry Park, Ged Brannan, Martyn Margetson, Ade Mike, Simon Treacey, John Burridge, Kevin Langley, Chris Shuker, Mikkel Bischoff, and of course the mysterious £4m Mathias Vuoso - that deal never was explained, nor the reason why KK never played the guy. Christian Negouai too had the bizarrest City career, with multiple sendings off and a great Volleyball goal against Rotherham.

Older ones, Ged Keegan and Bobby Shinton, and finally a player I had hoped to cast from memory but cant, our big Ozzie summer signing - first player signed by KK - the one the only (thank god) Simon Colosimo.

Can't argue with most but Ged Keegan was a decent player and didn't he play in the 76 Final win against the barcodes?
