According to Hansen we have no strength in depth at centre half (kolo, savic, Richards, onouha, yaya at a push) and that's our weakness. Apparently Savic isn't good enough. You can often tell that on someone's debut.

Think he's earned his £40k for that insight and I'm glad to contribute my licence fee to his golf fund.

Let's remember Kompany was at best average his first season and a half and he played quite alot during that spell.

He looked like a fish out of water at some times and was def. at fault for the 2nd goal when he played them onside (if I remeber correctly).

Still he looks like a cool head and someone who can grow into a great player. Obvious that Mancini has faith in him aswell since he played him over Kolo vs both villareal and here.

To be honest I think he did well vs Villareal and when he has played more with this team and in England he'll get alot better.

I can't see any attributes at all that would make Savic into a Pl centre back. Fullback or def midfield perhaps but even then I can't see why we would pick him over other young players.

I would love to be wrong & tbf I've only really seen him for City & for Monty v england but he absolutely fucking stank of shit v England until he moved to RB & at centre back he looks like a defensive equivalent of Bebe. He seems to have no qualities whatsoever as a defender. Absolutely none. I just don't understand what the fuck it is he's supposed to be good at. No pace, no positional sense, no reading of the game, no tackling, no judgement of the flight of a ball & doesn't get off the ground.

Hopefully it's all just down to nerves & he'll suddenly be brilliant but so far if I had to liken him to a past City player it would be Darren Wassell. Absolutely fucking useless.

So would you start him against Newcastle or not?

2 good starts and 1 bad isn't panic time for a 20 yr old center defender playing in the 2nd best team in the world. He'll develop greatly over the next few years. Just have a bit of patience now

I think "good start" is slightly overrating his start against Villarreal, they did fuck all in attack and he coped with it okay.

Boyata looks twice the player, I think we loaned the wrong one.

perhaps little harsh on the lad but I agree. I just don't see it in him.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Wonder how Messi did in his first game, as if he played for us, I suspect he'd have got blasted for not being good enough.

Savic had a poor full premier league debut against a team who threw a lot of high balls into the box and with the partner you wouldn't want a new centre half to have. Not going to slag Lescott off, but he's hardly the calming, talkative influence you'd want next to you when you're having a bad game. Additionally, Micah had a very poor game on the other side of him.

Savic has still got a LOT to learn, but Bob obviously rates him and that'll do for me.

This player had 56 games in Serbia and 6 full caps before coming to City.

He's not a 17 year old(as Messi was) he is 20 years old.

I severely doubt Messi showed absolutely nothing to be positive about in his first game, let alone his 60th.

It was down to Savic, Micah was just desperately trying to bail him out but savic was the bloke making the challenge. He was beaten in almost every aerial challenge by any player who jumped with him in any area of the pitch, as well as being skinned a few times on the ground & positionally fucking terrible. Why Bob & Co didn't see this coming I just don't know, I predicted it weeks ago & assumed they knew something about him that I couldn't see. They don't.

Still think it was Micah. Him and Lescott swapped who they were marking, and Micah never even got close, like he didn't with Helguson earlier. Savic is fine, he will do ok in the future, he is already safer than Kolo by some margin.

You must be pissed. What particular evidence have you seen that makes you think savic could play against Kenwyne Jones for example ? Or Jemaine DeFoe or even Sturridge on the deck ? What are you basing it on ?

Ted I've seen him out jump that mad lamp post Zigic. I've seen him play in a partnership with Vince that has looked comfortable and twice I've seen him record a clean sheet. I see him very calm in possession, using the ball rather than just lumping it up the park, a vital attribute for a defender in a successful team. And I saw Micah Richards get beaten for the first goal yesterday, not Savic. Now Micah has had a fine season, but didn't do well at QPR, and in the same way as I'm not going condemn Savic yesterday, I'm not going to massacre him for an off day.

I didn't see the Birmingham game. I've seen Savic for Monty v England, he was useless, v Wolves in the LC, he was useless, v QPR, he was useless, & v Villareal he was ok but had no difficult defending to do at all & when he came on the other day he made a nice interception & did nothing wrong but once again was not tested.

In short, when he's had any defending to do, he's been fucking awful. I'm not just talking a bit iffy or the odd mistake, I'm talking catastrophically inept to a level we haven't seen in a City shirt since the lower leagues. It's all there on video; I've watched it again to make sure I'm not being unfair (I would love him to succeed & wish I was wrong/hope he does) Inthose games he is fucking frighteningly awful in every aspect of the defensive art. He makes almost every error it is possible for a defender to make.

He is young. That is our only hope; that nerves could be behind his ineptitude. If he wasn't young he'd be the worst defensive signing we've made since Alan Kernaghan.

And so continues the trend of writing off City players instead of just saying, "eh they had a bad game." If the manager would listen to this board on player decisions, we'd replace 90% of our players after 3 or 4 games. Since I've been here:

- dzeko
- Barry
- Johnson
- yaya
- Lescott
- kolarov
- savic

all have been determined to be "not good enough" for City. Almost every time this has come back to not be true and the original poster is not only wrong, but has been slagging off a City player when they are needing support to get their best form back. Except for 3 own goals in 10 mins or a tevez like incident, give the player AT LEAST half a season (especially if they're not from UK) to adjust to the team, league, new country, and find their proper form. Because otherwise you look like a negative cunt now and a thick twat later.
