You're absolutely right. It was a bollocks decision even by his own logic.

This won't go down well, but in my opinion the only referees who've shown themselves remotely capable of handling the really big, high-intensity games are Howard Webb and Mike Dean.

I just can't get my head around it, there's just been too many games now where I've walked away from games shaking my head at the referee, even though we've won! It's like we're playing against 12 men, one of whom has the power to change the game just by blowing his whistle.

If it's just me then I'll hold my hands up and admit I need to get some med's, but it's becoming a constant talking point walking back from the game when we should be discussing how well the team are doing.

It is particulary disturbing to see players like Barry and Milner receive yellow cards for somewhat innocuous tackles. I could even add Kompany's yellow to that. If only because of the antics of Suarez.

On a simple review of the reports on any webpage or in the newspapers, you would think City are a tough team , hard and dirty.
When in fact , yesterday was quite the opposite. Liverpool cheated in their play ( Suarez the prime example).

Barry has picked up some very dubious yellows this season so far.

Atkinson is a most disgraceful referee. I can not understand how this guy lives with himself. Countless occasions yesterday
he had the opportunity to give yellow cards to Liverpool players. In the end he gives one to Caroll , yeah game almost over.

Why on earth he singled out Ballo for those cards is ridiculous. I maintain even Ballos firstcard didn't deserve to be given. Sure, he could at least have got a talking to. It was after all his first and very mild offence.

Shocking, simply shocking referee. Finally City have the squad to rise above these situations.

I have to say my instant reaction at the time was Mario is off here.I didn't actually think he had done anything serious like an elbow but more that he had just run clumsily and a bit aggressively into their player and the way he crumpled made me think what I did plus the fact that we were playing at Anfield and with Atkinson as the ref.

That doesnt mean I thought it definitely deserved a yellow and on watching it time and time again I think it didn't.Sure as hell though if that had been done to a City player by a player who already had a yellow I think all City fans would have been screaming for him to go.

That's the point. It shouldn't have been a yellow but it was at one of the world's worst grounds for unfair reffing decisions, against a team full of whinging cheats with a ref who usually obliges them. If you give him an excuse, he will take it.

The ref was pretty bad but the mix of that and the worst cheating by an english team for some time made him seem even worse.

It may well be an argument that Mario should have known better and not given Atkinson the opportunity. But in a fair few peoples opinions what he got the 2nd yellow for was not a bookable offence just Atkinson found some way of seeing it like that.So it might have been in his mind to be careful, but if the ref had it in his mind to find the slightest thing he could use to do what he would achieve what he had maybe previously arranged.Heat of the moment and all that sort of stuff aswell and his age.

Another question:

If the referee deemed that on the numerous times that Suarez et al went to ground were not fouls (no free-kick given), then that would mean at some point that the referee seen it as Suarez taking a dive. If so, why wasn't he booked?

Here the thing I cannot understand. Blatant diving should be punished in the interest of the referees themselves. Players like Suarez make their jobs harder because they have to try to determine if he actually was tackled badly or just faking it again. Just card him at the first dive of each match and make your job easier. FFS.

I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

That gif file on the Suarez thread is so blatantly disgustingly evil, I don't understand why it isn't viewed by the FA as worth a charge. They do Rooney for swearing, surely Suarez actions are at least as bad as that ? He should at least be summoned to explain his actions. If nothing else, that might make him think twice about continuing with that outragous behaviour.

Atkinson and his linesman also screwed up when Downing lofted the ball over the net in the second half. One scouse player positioned himself by the line for a pass from the corner. The way the ball was placed at the corner, the pass became a forward pass, even Joe Hart was beyond the player. No other city player was on the line, so it had to be offside. Wasn't picked up.. I've just finally got around to seeing on motd2. It was another example of how bad this ref is.

Edit:

One more point, when Edin went down the line to give David Silva that great chance towards the end. Lucas tried to manhandle him, Atkinson should have gone back to give Lucas a card.
What a bad referee!
