Kept it nice and simple passing a lot to our defenders with short passes which I liked and kept us possession.I think he is worth keeping for games like this.

I thought he did well today, If we do end up in europa then i'd like to see him get the chance to play a few more.

What you all saw last night is the work of Massimo Battara, Bob's gk coach. I know Pantilemmons for over 6 years now, since he was playing in the Romanian third Division and what you all saw last night was the same performance that made him good in his first season as a top level. What you saw last night was the Panti that Juve wanted to replace Buffon. This is the difference between a shocking Panti in august and a good keeper in november. The level of training between a regular club and a top club.

Well done to Battara, no wonder Shay and Joe were the best keepers in the league.

Ok fair enough. Now explain the other one!

Not quite, it's reference to His Dark Materials (trilogy of books by Philip Pullman). There's a character (well a deamon) called Pantalaimon - I have to admit it's the first thing I thought of when I heard we'd signed him.

Edit: Well that's what Lev was referring to - who knows about Jono!

Haha - were we honestly supposed to know the reference point for that gag?

He's technically a better shot saver than Joe. I like this. Whether he can match Joe in all other departments remains to be seen.

Watch the 60 second highlights on the website and the save on 21 seconds. Pantyhose makes the save with his right hand. Technically correct. Joe would attempt that save with his left hand. Joe would get less of a touch and be hoping to tip it over the goal. With Pantyhose going with his right hand he theoretically can get a further reach and get more "purchase on the ball."

Here's evidence of Joey using his left on 1:17 of this strangely scored clip.

It can be argued that by Joe going with the left hand he can cover the distance quicker but you can counter that argument with both the larger reach and distance covered by going with the right.

Fu, are you with me on this or not?

Interesting.

He did very well last night but he did drop/fumble one of the few decent crosses which came his way. You would have to see him against Stoke etc rather than a vastly overrated & completely impotent Arsenal attack.

An impotent attack that managed nearly four times as many shots on target as us.

yes but where from! They were all from distance and Panty made a couple of good saves but saves he would have been disappointed with himself if he had not made them.

if Joe was 6'8" do you think he would use the same technique?
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

We had a defence & keeper who've never played together, one a smallish bloke at CB who has barely played, another who has hardly played since last season at right back, a right back playing left back & a defensive mid who hasn't played 90 mins for two years & is getting match fit. Arsenal created one chance, in the first few minutes, whilst they got to know each other. Then nothing whatsoever for the next 80 odd. They were hopeless.

Height has nothing to do with it. Joey is going with the technique he learnt as a kid. Perhaps he's tried the other style and he isn't as effective with it. I should add that Pantys technique also gives him the option of catching such shots. The only option for Joey is to tip it over the bar for a corner.

From everything I have seen in training plus the little of Panti in matches I would say Joe is technically the better keeper when making saves. Panti though was top class last night.

As a man who's opinion is somewhat better informed than the rest of us, would you sign him permanently if the decision was yours?

I personally would like to see him play in all of the Europa League games along with the rest of last nights squad assuming the xmas miracle does not happen 7 days from now, the competition could be useful to us as their could be a few players who earn a return to the first team and a few that gain the experience required to step up.

The official price for him could go down after the Timisoara owner had been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Beside that, Timisoara has huge financial problems, so we can get him for free if the club will go bankrupt.
