The voice of reason as always Ted. I think some are over re-acting to Nige's recent performances and I agree he's been very average if not bad in some.
However the guy is quality and we've seen what he could do over the last 2 seasons. You don't lose that overnight. There must be reasons for his drop of form which might be due to his recent injuries and then being out of the team for long periods.
I think he needs time to regain his form and I for one am willing to wait until end of this season to make any conclusive judgment on him.

I don't think form or recent any recent injury would stop a player from going for a ball they were certain to win (Welbeck goal).
As I said, I hope he regains whatever it is he's missing and ends his career with City.

In the world XI according to most people on here last season. I always said his forward play wasn't good enough. He's the same player he's always been. He's not had a proper run in the side yet this season.

Just a thought, but could his protracted contract talks be sonething of a sideshow for him. If we are playing hardball, he might feel a bit unloved? Easily affect a player if the negotiations are miles apart from agreeing a figure.

He was as bad as i have seen him last night and we got away with it. I would bet we wouldnt be so lucky against a better team like spurs. He needs to sort himself out or ned will be ahead of him soon.

There's something seriously wrong. Every pass went into touch, he's lost and little composure and what's worse we look more likely to concede when he's on as we have no fucking possession.

If this carries on I expect to see a "what does he actually do" thread at some point.

Never mind De Jong

Get rid of Lescott, no intelligence on the field and he's scared of the ball.

Everytime I watch him now it just does my head in, as soon as he has the ball he passes to the easiest/nearest player whether they are manned or not.

Weakest link.

Don't agree with getting rid of lescot, think he does his job well, yes scared of the ball but never fails to get simple things done, and that is tackle, get the ball off the attacker, clear lines, prevent conceding. I can't actually believe I am sticking up for him as I nearly cried when we bought him cus I thought he was shit, but now fab!! De Jong I think is a confidence player and yet agreeing that yaya is far better then ndj he has still got it but needs the games, think he needs trust and think he needs to rest yaya more!

great idea.....NOT! Lescott is a defender, called me old fashioned but i like my defender to defend first and foremost. Look at Luiz he loves to mess around at the back and it does more harm than good.

I dont get the anti-Lescott amongest city fans, he is one of the most under rated players in the league.

De Jong goodbye
By NEIL CUSTIS

NIGEL DE JONG is set to be sold by Manchester City at the end of the season.
The defensive midfielder has refused to sign a new contract and has only 18 months left on his current deal.

De Jong has been offered an increase on his £75,000-a-week deal to £100,000 — but believes he is worth much more.

City are standing firm on their offer and are now open to bids for the 27-year-old Dutch international in May.

De Jong was signed from Hamburg for £17million in January 2009 by Mark Hughes and became an immediate fans' favourite for his no-nonsense, combative style.

With such a short time left on his contract, City can probably expect only around £10m when he moves on.

Initially, he was the linchpin of City's team but has not been a regular first choice this campaign under Roberto Mancini, with Yaya Toure, Gareth Barry and James Milner all ahead of him in midfield.

De Jong has started only four games so far this season.

Its a shame there is not much more to his game.i think this is the reason that he's not been getting so much time on pitch.against wigan he was shite giving the ball away backward passing non stop and when the ball had to go forward it was aimless.i think he was great last year but as we get better those players who can't keep improving will inevitably fall by the wayside.

Love him as a person, but if he turned down 100K a week, then he is mental. Maybe he just wants 1st team football, but with the displays that he's shown recently it just ain't gonna happen here.

As much as it pains me to say it, our team seems to have out grown him and need a more versatile player in every midfield position. There is too much interchange for a specialty DM unless we're trying to kill off a game. He'd still make a great sub though. The fans love him, he should just put his head down and sort out his game on the field.

Fans, money, team spirit, trophies.... why not stay?

Nigel de Jong's future at Manchester City is looking increasingly uncertain after he was moved to the edges of Roberto Mancini's plans during a contract dispute that has left the club open to offers for the midfielder at the end of the season.

De Jong was one of Mancini's key players last season but has made only four starts this league campaign after falling behind Yaya Touré, Gareth Barry and James Milner in the manager's thinking. Mancini also wants to sign another midfielder, Daniele De Rossi from Roma, and though the chances of that happening are receding, his interest partly stems from not being fully convinced that De Jong is capable of re-establishing himself as a regular first-team player. That may constitute a surprise given De Jong's popularity with the City supporters, but Mancini has not been hugely impressed by the player's contribution this season and, to put it into context, is not making any moves behind the scenes to tie him to a new contract.

De Jong turned down a contract offer worth more than £100,000 a week last summer and City have made no plans to reopen talks with the player's agent, Rodger Linse. The Holland international will have only a year remaining on his contract in the summer and, with his transfer value already depreciating, City will entertain the idea of selling rather than risk losing him to a free transfer the following year.

The 27-year-old, who was hampered by a foot injury at the start of the season, is not available in this transfer window, but his potential availability is already well known among other Premier League clubs. Neil Warnock had floated the idea of trying to sign him when he was manager at QPR and, while it is unlikely De Jong would have wanted to join a club who are now in the relegation zone, his contract situation means there will inevitably be other potential buyers looking to sign a World Cup finalist at a reduced price.

City regard last summer's offer as generous but De Jong was one of their more important players at that point and, as such, wanted to be made one of the highest earners at the club. The disparity between what he wanted and what was on the table was significant and, perhaps crucially, City will almost certainly offer reduced terms if talks are to reopen.

I think the one thing that we have in our favour which wasn't so until this season is that playing at City you now look set to pick up some major trophies. For most players, honours have to be a prime motivation irrespective of the financial rewards involved these days.

He was barmy to reject 100K if he did though and I think that article is spot on in that he's likely to now be offered less not more

But what if he had signed the contract - if general consensus is that he now isn't good enough, wouldn't that have been bad judgement by Bob?

He's done nothing but bumble about all season, stalling on a new deal, while having an aversion to passing the ball forward. He hasn't even done a decent defensive midfield job for us as his covering and tackling have disappeared along with all of his other qualities. We shall hopefully get a decent fee and bring in someone with a bit more commitment.

TBF if Kia is his agent was this a matter of time. Also his first two touches on Monday were a booking for Zabba and one for himself.

Ndj has refused a contract extension and a raise from 75000 - 100000 and has said he believes he is worth more and will not sign unless offered more, think maybe if he did more on field he would get it!
