Should The PreMatch Handshake Continue?

Never understood this 'gentlemanly' approach of both teams strolling out together followed by all shaking hands to supposedly show a respectful team spirit. How can anyone respect Rooney, Terry, Suarez, etc.
It should be how it was in the 'old days'. Both teams come out separately - the away team to loads of abuse and the home team to a deafening roar. The only players that did the pre-match handshake were the 2 captains before the coin toss.

That attitude only contributes to the atmosphere of total disrespect in football towards players, refs, managers, fans, etc.

I don't have much respect for most people in football. They are a bunch of arsewipes.

Completely off topic but the reason that Americans are so obsessed with tipping is that they (service industry as far as I understand it) get taxed on their earnings plus 15%, presuming that they will get that amount of tips off everyone. If they don't get the tips they still pay tax! So don't blame the poor waitresses, it's the system that's to blame.

actually, depending on state, waiters/waitresses' salaries are something on the order of $3.25 per hour. That's what I made when I was a waiter at a chain restaurant after college while trying to find a job. So, not getting tipped really fucks you over, because some lobby interest was able to successful bribe the government into thinking tips would make up for an actual wage. They also tax the tips you get, and many places make you give a portion to the house staff (hosts/hostess ... cooks and busboys ... even though they get a better wage).

On the handshake topic, playing amateur in Taipei right now, they copy it and make us do the same, it's really pointless and just for show ... and I suspect it's the same professional. I could see it being a part of international games or cup finals, but having it be a normal part of every match is way over the top.

They should come out and kiss each other reet on the lips! That way it's fair for players like John O'Shea to enjoy the gentlemanly-ness as well.

It should be stopped. Most of the 'hand shakes' are just half hearted fleeting touches anyway, i would not call them a good old fashioned clasping handshake at all.....maybe a good slap in the face would be more entertaining.

It's just a vehicle for the league sponsor to get into the tv picture.

for the record most of us here in the States hate compulsory tipping as well. Pay these fuckers a reasonable wage and tell them to do their jobs serving us when we come into your joint. If they do something fantastical, i'll throw them a few extra bucks for sure, but the 15% tax for just slinging the shit without a smile or a recommendation worth a shit is pretty tiresome. Most waiters and waitresses suck. The amazing ones can turn a meal into a really special story worth having gone out for and then some. And bring you back again and again.

Also, i'll start a thread of silly irish cunt behavior as well so that we can balance this out.

cheers

Watching the ACON final last night - the Zambia keeper took a penalty and scored - then walked over to the CIV keep and they shook hands, with the Zambia keeper being almost apologetic.

That was nice to see. Had a little cry.

Ok Ok, there were no tears. Honest. :)

But that's what the whole handshake thing should be about... meaningful sportsmanship, not a choreographed parade.

It should happen at the end of the game if anything, but its just not Rugby. Being paid (insert six figure sum here) a week to play the game you love isnt enough. Players need a good racial flare-up or wife-shagging episode to really get into the spirit of the game.

Shame.

I think it was quite clear Anton Ferdinand wasnt going to shake Terry's hand. Whereas Suarez had told LFC and match officials that he had no problem doing so.

With everyone believing he was going to do it, it seemed the best way to draw a line under it.

Until Suarez did his thang.

Not sure how true Wooders but it was reported that unlike the QPR v Chelsea game, neither the rags nor the Scousers had requested or suggested it should be stopped.

I think both clubs had been in contact and thought the issue had been sorted. King Kenny seemed genuinely suprised when jumped on and informed by the reporter (Shreeve?), saying "That's not what I had been told."

I think it's likely that Suarez has made a King Kenny look a bit of a twat in public and in the privacy of LFC will get his arse kicked at some point. Maybe it also explains why Taggart took such a hard stance and why subsequently, Suarez has (been told to???) apologised.

That was the best bit! KK trying to get away but Shreeves nagging and nagging waiting for a bite and then as soon as Kenny uttered the words, "That's not what I've been told" Shreeves knew he'd caught a big'un!

I quite enjoyed the whole handshakegate, the issue should be racism not a fucking refusal to shake hands. Who gives a shit, their both cunts and should get a pre match slap.
