England's Clean Slate 11

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Harry will pick the same bunch of failures as every other England manager. If he could, he'd pick Beckham. Then he'll add his Spurs favourites.

The only difference will be a complete lack of tactics. If it works, the players will express themselves more, have a few surprising results where everyone gets excited, then get arse fucked 6-0 by Spain. Everyone will say "well at least we had a go".

If it doesn't work, he'll have a twitching turnip cartoon head on the back page of the Sun, after we get splattered by teams like Sweden or Russia.

This is EXACTLY to the T how it will go.

As far as tactics go Redknapp is one of the worst out there. He has always had a wingman who more or less takes charge of training sessions and decides tactics. Redknapp only picks players and acts as some sort of frontman. That is by the way no Redknapp hate post (although I can't stand him) but this is gathered from various of sources (autobiographies, interviews) of his former players.

But he is English and talks a good game so he will have more time than most so I suppose it could be steadying influence. What's the worst thing for you here is that like it or not you are in the middle of generation switch. Generation of Gerrard's, Scholes' and Terry's is gone and younger players are coming in. What you'd need right now is someone who'd be willing to take blame for couple of poor results and ease that new, possibly golden, generation in. But that will NOT happen with Redknapp.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Hart
Richards - Smalling - Lescott - Cole
Gerrard -Barry/Parker - Wilshere
Sturridge - Rooney - Young/Oxlade-Chamberlain/Walcott

Subs
Milner, Jones, Bent, Defoe, Walker, Jagielka, Barry/Parker + a keeper

Thought Smalling played well at CB (was it against us), and think this is where he will end up playing.
Jones, I just don't know about him, looks good but nobody knows his best position yet
Lescott is in there solely on merit, although at his age, if we are looking to kick on we should probably look to Smalling/Jones forming that partnership, and similar with Barry/Parker. Think we need their experience, but Rodwell and Wilshere will take the midfield for the next 10 years.

Assuming Rooney is out I'd play

-----------------Hart
Richards---Dawson---Lescott--Cole
--Gerrard-----Parker--Wilshire/Milner
---Sturridge----------Young/ Oxlade C
---------------Bent

As for HR's approach, I think this bit will be telling: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sp ... negro.html

Repeat ad nauseum: "I HAVE a vision of a 'golden triangle' for England"

Only missing Crouch and Lampard who are also locks to be involved.

Richards hasnt got a prayer, as Redknapp will still seelct that ugly loud mouth moose Walker who cant defend.

I'm surprised at the number of people who rate Dawson more highly than Jagielka and Cahill. I think he's a bit suspect, especially when squared up by a change of pace (see the way Kun did him at WHL).

Cahill is a liability imo, will be found out at Chelsea before the season is out.

Dawson/ Jagielka either or. I've been impressed with Dawson recently. Not sure there are many CBs in the world that wouldn't get done for pace vs Aguero.

True, but he has a tendency to get too close, allowing nippy forwards to skip by him. I've seen it happen a few times. A more intelligent centre-half would back off a step or two at the appropriate angle. That's how Terry made a good career for himself despite his own chronic lack of pace.
