Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

As a side note, the commentators mentioned the lack of atmosphere for about the 3rd time I remember this season.

I'm not trying to give shit to those lucky enough to be there, but it's not coming across well on Telly is all.

i think compared to most premier teams grounds, we're pretty decent. and just wait till we get the next big game, roof will go off. not being arrogant, the chances were we were going to batter bolton today, so you don't get too worked up

I'm not sure about that mate, maybe a way of saying that it's a bit tense. For me though, it's hard to tell through a TV as it doesn't show the people biting their nails.

I can understand the atmosphere at the end though, I think there was me and the works cat left to clap the boys off. Even my mate had fucked off for a piss!

I think a big problem is we have a "singing section" who think calling a fat guy a fat guy is creating atmosphere! I sit in 118 have done for 3 or 4 years now and it's got quieter every year.

The singing section doesn't work everyone in bell end and family is looking at them to start songs but they wanna shout at away fans.

If away fans moved upstairs then the taunters could go with them then maybe the singers/standers could take up south stand then maybe the atmosphere could start

The atmosphere is shit because people simply cannot be arsed singing, plus now there are so many new faces appearing at the ground armed with a massive amount of expectation and a limited amount of knowledge.

I am thinking of moving seats as I am fed up of the glory supporting cunts around me that think Joe Royle is a scouser off a sitcom.

Lol
Even Maine Rd wasn't the same once they ripped down the Kippax
You could stand under the roof and feel the atmosphere at every game. Great when the majority of your fans are standing all down one length of the ground, you couldn't help but join in! Helped create a unique atmosphere which is definitely not being repeated at Etihad.
Football has definitely changed since then though as has the demographic of those who attend games -more corporate 'guests' etc.

From the family stand, you can barely hear the singing section. That's got to be the acoustics, but if there's someone talking in the family stand they drown them out until it spreads down the side.

My concern with moving the away fans is that there will be no atmosphere whatsoever.

I think a lot of people are feeling the pressure and my mind was flicking back to the time when we played them off the field, hitting the post and crossbar on numerous occassions only for Dunney to give a penalty in added time. Anyone remember that one? Typical City may have moved on with the team but it's definately still alive in the fans.

Once we had the second the relief/release kicked in and that's when the fat boy songs kicked in and fits of laughter swung around the ground; fuck me, even the North Stand gave a rendition of 'Stand up if you Love City'.

I don't get why people complain though, were they actuually there to feel the atmosphere, not just hear it. And were they gainfully supporting the atmosphere or just merely taking it all in?

Sometimes its just too tense, I go to all home games and some away, am in 211and can say our home atmosphere is better than a lot of other grounds.

i've thought this for a long time. Since we moved, in fact.
Even when we've just scored a 3rd against the rags and everyone's singing bluemoon at the top of their voices, there's quite a delay between the various sections of the ground, so it sounds diluted.
That's purely down to the shape of the stadium. It makes it virtually impossible for the whole stadium to sing at once.
You can sometimes notice the singing timelag on the TV too. Where grounds are square the sound travels alot quicker across to the other side, and swells. Where grounds are round, there's nothing for the initial singing to bounce off, so it kind of Mexican waves its way round; the Kippax finish singing 4 or 5 seconds before the North stand.

Also, watching Match Choice last night (or early this morning,) through headphones, I never noticed how low they make the crowd sound compared to the (unnecessary) commentary, and started to wonder if they have different levels for different grounds/ fixtures?
Quite easy for a producer to say "low crowd sound for the Etihad please.." One for the conspiracy theorists, that.
City have soul. United do not.

It always feels good in the South Stand. Been in the top tier of the East Stand and bottom tier Colin Bell and everybody just sits on their hands.

We now have an oxidizing atmosphere, while the original atmosphere was what could be called a reducing atmosphere.Don't blame the fans blame global warming.

What i meant was the atmosphere of the home fans when we go away is very rarely good. I think our atmosphere is one of the best. Apart from stoke, who are mental health cases. I thinn we are better or at least on a par with the other teams.

People moaning about the atmosphere are the same type of people who moan about being in a shit job but do nothing about it.

As I've said before, the acoustics of the ground are terrible. I had the misfortune to sit in the top tier of the 'family stand' (hence smeone's kids were in my seat) v Porto & it was fucking dismal. I'm usually at the dead end of the East stand & half the people there don't even cheer the players names when the team is called out, but the top tier of the FS makes the east stand seem like the Kippax in 1976. It was horrible, not only in it's deadness but also in that you couldn't even hear the Porto fans from there, let alone our non singing section; the sound doesn't travel. It's like hearing a transistor radio with dodgy batteries.

We should approach some acoustic experts to see if there's any way the ground could be altered slightly to focus the sound better. It may appear stupid but it's amazing what difference can be made by a few strategically placed object & by materials used. They should really consider this if they are to rebuild some of the ground.

Atmosphere is built around the whole ground & you don't feel like joining in with a song which feels like it's coming from 5 miles away; you don't feel part of it. It's only when the singing sections really go for it that the sound travels & the rest then join in.
