I used to be friends with Paul Dickovs family, For a mid week game we got an empty box in the Platt lane stand during the period where we had something like sixty first team squad members under Frank Clarke if I remember correctly. Fed up of paying players to sit around and do nothing the club sent these excess players to 'host' guest in the boxes. We got Gerry Creaney.

We did not mention how we got the box which was good because he went on to trash talk every member of the club including Dickov and subsequently helped himself to the free bar. He was rat arsed by the end of the game. I was young at the time but my Dickov's old man also thought he was on something as well.

After the game we went to the players bar and all the young players (The Whitleys and Crooks are the only ones I remember) were all around him. They loved him. No wonder so many of players went off the rails.

He had to leave Celtic because of 'issues' in Glasgow. If I remember correctly he got beaten up quite badly in Portsmouth when he was there as well.

I have heard stories about him being a Taxi driver. He must have been on a nice wage packet back in the late 90's. Complete twat who squandered everything. He was a very decent player at one point and could have easily played at a high level for 10 years.

This. I remember the season we got relegated from the Premier League and second home match in against Charlton he curls in a 25 yard free kick. Thought at the time that he had turned a corner with that - How wrong was I !!!

glasgow and the surrounding area is one big shit hole. why do live there?

I don't.

Fortunately when I moved up here the folks were wise enough to chose one of the nicer towns outside Edinburgh as our home.

Some shit holes in and around Glasgow but Coatbridge is the up there with the worst. Absolute hell hole.

Just for balance, Whilst I will never defend Coatbridge - I live in Kelvinbridge in the West End of Glasgow and it is a brilliant place place to stay. Glasgow is by far and away the best city I have lived in on this island.

You can't write off an entire city as a shithole just because of some of its satellite towns. Glasgow is a cracking city especially the west end. Decrying it because of it's shittier areas would be like saying all of Manchester is a shithole because of Oldham or Longsight.

Creaney pre-dates my following City by about 5 years but this thread has me in stitches.

Morbid curiousity led me to this picture of him playing for Raith Rovers in 2000. AGED 30.

FFS he looks 50!
