Van Persie not extending Arsenal contract

Come on guys. The owners are taking as much cash out of the Arse as the Glazers. The math just doesn't add up. High ticket prices, big transfer fees for players going out, a worldwide fanbase and a manager who prefers to mould young players than try to integrate established stars.

The owners are making a killing.

Pretty good point if you ask me.

I sometimes get the impression that its entirely Wenger's decision re the lack of spending.

hm yeah but they did go into alot of debt building the stadium didnt they and im sure there making sure all there money goes towards the costs of the stadium once that is paid off, they can spend the money generated on players? this all depends on wether arsenal stay a top club in the league i suppose. good football puts bums on seats.

And I suppose the board members have been going skint while they go through this rough period of indebtedness, just like Wenger is doing all their good work for free.

There is a reason Wenger is classed as the highest earner in the game. Some say it's because of what he is achieving, I say it's just the pay-off for making them a fortune.

Well I'm not ashamed to be the first one within this thread to admit I'd absolutely fucking love it if he joined us, he's one of the best in the business and is proven at prem level.

I feel the opposite. That wenger is being a good soldier for the board and he is secretly pissed that he can't get out the wedge and make the 2-3 20m buys that could make them title contenders.

city dont need rvp. he's oldish, injury prone, high wages, high transfer fee.

we should sign some chinaman and take a piece of their market. resign ndj, find a winger. resign silva.

His league record for Arsenal:

season / apps / goals

2004–05 / 26 / 5
2005–06 / 24 / 5
2006–07 / 22 / 11
2007–08 / 15 / 7
2008–09 / 28 / 11
2009–10 / 16 / 9
2010–11 / 25 / 18
2011–12 / 38 / 30

29 in a month, 1 year left on his contract; if anyone at our club decides to pay anywhere in the region of 20m, scratch that, even 15m, with a big fat contract attached to it, they're Hughes-like mugs.

He also has an injury prone track record, is going to turn 29 before the new season starts and, more importantly, he tend to play as a stand alone striker who need the whole team to revolve around him. I'm not saying he's not a superb striker, because he's, but I'd very very much prefer to stick with our 4 existing strikers... unless Herman.... who is always a potential timebomb...
also, there is no doubts in my mind that our own super-Bosnian will fully show to be a top draw for us before getting 29.

once said that, because next term we are gonna face a very demanding and ambitious season, if he can be hired for a bargain (saying not the 20m figures that are talking about), he commits to serve the team instead of looking for a nr.1 striker position, why not?

I'm with Beefy, all considered, tho.
definitely not a priority on our market strategy, imo.

We have 4 top strikers already and should be looking at a winger and a CB to support Vinny and Lescott. Apart from that, I don't think we need to bring much else in (assuming none of the main squad leave).

IF, for some reason, we are in for Van Persie, then we should offer no more than £10m. He's in the last year of his contract and we really need to be reducing the amount we spend in transfer fees. We completely overpaid for Nasri last year, who also just had 1 year left, and I'd hate to see us pay a similar fee again. No other club would pay such high fees, and now we are the Champions we need to try and lose the 'City premium' we've been paying in the transfer market.

At least with Nasri he was only 23.

I would seriously be surprised if we sign this guy. I just don't see the logic in it. What are we going to do, shift him to the left wing to leave Aguero in the middle? I just don't see where this fits, unless we are paying pennies for him.

Good point re: Nasri's age, also United were also interested in him at the time and the higher price would have helped to price them out of the deal. But now, as Champions, we shouldn't need to do that.

The move just doesn't make sense to me, despite the best attempts of the media to convince us otherwise.

If we do sign him, I'll trust Mancini's judgement but can't help feeling this isn't a player we need.

Pretty much spot on. Feels strange to not want to sign the current Golden Boot, but with FFP and the strikers we already have, I don't think this is top priority.

Piers Morgan's twitter tantrum is great, too:

Piers Morgan ‏@piersmorgan
I don't blame @Persie_Official for this (though unforgivable if he goes to City) - I blame #Arsenal board and Wenger. Not enough ambition

If you go to Manchester City @Persie_Official - you'll be dead to me. DEAD.

Piers Morgan ‏@piersmorgan
Why would @Persie_Official see the signing of Giroud, who can't even make a weak French team, as 'progress' ? #Arsenal

@GNev2 Mate, you're not even the best football team in Manchester. Pipe down.

Doesn't piers Morgan owe a charity 10,000 on behalf of our premier league winning champion of England samir nasri? Wonder if he ever payed up.

The not even the best football team in Manchester is a bit of a shit comment, the scum are still better than everyone else including arsenal by a long way.

i dont think i am mentally ill... not the last time i checked anyway... but RVP is a risk both form and injury wise, and how would he work alongside aguero? Not so sure about him, will he score 30 goals where he is not the one and only main man?
