As others have said, he's great going forward but defensively he's not great. I dunno if it's because he's old or lazy bit agains madrid it was a mistake

I don't think he's ever been great defensively - he's always been known as an attacking full-back although his lack of fitness clearly hinders him in getting back to his defensive duties after making a forward run. As others have said it's ok to play him at home when you know the opposition aren't gpoing to be doing much attacking but I would be nervous about playing him as a right back away from home. Still think that right wing back is his best position

He has my fullest sympathy after having played left back on a wet and heavy pitch today. After bombing forward and chasing back 3-4 times within a five minute period, I was doing my best Yaya impression with my hands on my knees.

But on the other hands, I'm too old, half a stone above my match weight, and actually pay to play football - not the other way around ...

You really genuinely thought he was our BEST player on saturday??? Wow.

Him being unfit has nothing to do with his injury. He was unfit even before that. Guy has been playing in Italy for years where you can basically walk to attack. He has had litte defensive duties. I tried to explain that he had been used mostly as wingback in Inter when some people started showing me some team sheets from some fucking website claim otherwise. Perhaps these people should actually watch football every now and then.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

TBF he did bring a lot to the game on Saturday, Villa had very little chance to get set as he bombed on, lots happened down the right, a little unfair to be slating such an impact, Even stopped for a chat with the fans..

I thought he was our best player. Not only was he dangerous with the ball, but the threat he took with him without it created space for our attackers.

I thought he tackled and blocked shots well too. Great display.

I didn't say he was bad on saturday. In fact he was pretty good. But best player on the pitch,LULZ, no.

Generally speaking, we seem to have these players like Maicon, Kolarov and to an extent Balotelli who are "great to bring in when we are three up". I don't understand the need for players like that. I want players who are great to bring in when we are three down.

I'm not really sure where you are going with this.I would be of the opinion that players like Maicon and Kolarov are the kind of players you would want coming on when you are behind and need to make something happen.Ideal players to bring on when your chasing a game.

Anyway back on topic i felt Maicon played very well on saturday. In fairness he does look like a few more tough training sessions might help get him up to speed fitness wise but other than that i could not find fault.

What? Of course I saw the game. I didn't think Maicon was as exceptional as some of the other lads and I find it weird that someone did.

We have lot of players who are supposedly awesome when we aree cruising games. Do you think that in his current condition Maicon should be playing against better opposition who will seriously pressure us like say rags, Chelsea, Arsenal? I'd be fucking shitscared to see him starting against those. Players who play well against them will perform against lesser teams just as good.

Amazing that for your first two posts you thought you'd share something you 'found' on eBay. What are the chances...

As we have virtually no width and what we do have is expected to come from the full backs then Maicon, it could be argued, is ideal for big games. Micah naturally gets forward, Zabba is getting better at it, but from what we've seen, Maicon is the best of the three for getting down the wing and delivering decent balls into the box.
He changed the game v Spuds and did ok on Saturday.

I have to agree with NQD I thought he played alright against a shocking Villa team.

Smashing the ball accross the goal when no one is there doesnt make a good cross for me. His end product is slightly above Zabba but not as good as Micah for me (although Micah cant shoot). Hopefully he'll improve though.

Nasri Silva Yaya were better.

2 of the crosses in the 2nd were the best I have seen from us for a long time, He is fitter than he was and accepting the Villa team were camped down the middle another Mancini tweak of the highest order. Cannot see anything but positives from the cameo.
