We have shifted well over 300k in wages and made over 35+ million from the sales of Balotelli and Tevez alone.

Then add the Champions League Money and the added extra Prem money this year...

AND then add the stated club ambition to have a real go at the Champions League this year. The funds exist to make it happen.

I would be extremely disappointed in the club if they don't make a big transfer this year.

We NEED a big signing to spark the club into action this year. It is vital we crush the Scum this season and prevent them from even contemplating building another Fergie dynasty.

It is our time now, we, as a club, have to make that clear.

I'm with you on that.Just no way the club can afford to lose world class players like Tevez and Mario without making a major signing.I'm a bit worried though, I really hope all the money is not blown on an overpriced Cavani.

I bloody hope not. Sign Bale, promote Gudietti and sign David Villa.

It amazes me how our mindset has changed. We signed fernandinho for a massive fee that only a handful of clubs are able to afford, yet we are still after a marquee signing for BIG money.

Ibrahimovic would be an appalling move.

Totally agree. One of the most over rated players I've seen in a while.

219 goals and 76 assists in 396 league appearances.

Let's all call him overrated because we don't like him right?

Maybe you don't want him for other reasons, but the guy is a proven goalscorer and truly a world class player. A phrase that got applied to Mario Balotelli in this very thread, now if you wanted overrated.

I think the Ibrahimovic post was probably a dig at that deal by Barca(selling Eto'o for him)

Oh of course.

65m for a 31 year old.

I would personally love to go for someone like Marco Reus, not an out and out striker as such but behind aguero or dzeko could work. we are running out of options for strikers, 54 mil is to much for cavani, and although i think hes a great player i would hate to sign suarez because then id have to like him.

Blah blah blah. This post gets regurgitated in some form ever bloody month.

Do you just pop up on here to tell people they're wrong or mock these days or do you still have an original thought from time to time?

P.s. I think "marguee signings" are past now. They were mainly done to introduce us to worldwide audience. Which we have succeeded. I think we will only aim to improve the team and do it by affordable deal. Whereas we were blowing people out of the water before now if someone comes with a bid that we think is too much we seem to move to other targets.

Not much evidence of that yet

We did last summer. We failed to get De Rossi and ended up overpaying for Javi Garcia later. We failed to get Hazard and ended up overpaying for Scott Sinclair.

As those cases prove though, in my opinion we shouldn't just try to sign players for the sake of it. If someone genuinely suitable is available then pay what it takes to get him and forget these third rate options.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

More importantly, by a certain cheeky Spaniard.

I hope I am wrong, selling Tevez without lining up a replacement would be madness ... time will tell

Ok. Let's turn the tables. Who are the players you would say count as "Marquee signing"?

Messi
Tranaldo
Xavi
Iniesta
Maybe Bale, Özil and Cavani at a push

Marquee signing, to me, means someone who has real global marketing value.

Out of those players only Cavani and Bale are even distant possibilities to move.

I think I'd be disgusted if we were to sign Tranny, but my laughter wouldn't stop. I think I'd even make a redcafe account just to laugh at them some more.

Not a chance never never would I support the club with either cunt. No ifs or buts done finished. The thought is as bad as losing at Port Vale all those years ago and knowing we were fucked, with games to go. Never, for you ok PBL no chance.
