What Next?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Richards had a mare as did Nasty. I thought Clichy was playing ok until that error. Company, our leader, looked like a little boy tonight.
Although we were totally outplayed, at the end of the day all their goals came from errors. You can't afford to make mistakes like that against world class players.

But in answer to "what next" I would say drop Dzeko for starters. He's no threat, no touch lazy and has a peaheart. The Beast did much more than him.
I think I would play Hart v Blue Scouse, last chance, but Panti should be given PL game time.
At least we won't come up against a team with that quality again for a while

You always hope for the best Gillie. I watched the pre season game and they battered us then. I hoped for a decent performance from the players. I don't mind if we get beat - you literally can't win them all.... But I expect the guys to put in a shift.

They did put in a shift, but they were utterly outnumbered in midfield.

And Bayern were fucking lucky to get a result pre season. This was a totally different setup.

As for 'what's next ?' by the way.

If we're going by last season, a bunch of you get together & suck the manager's dick, telling everybody who dares to criticise him that we are morons & boderline traitors & that everything will be fine.

drop Hart and remain patient. Bayern are the best team and Guardiola owns Manuel.
We looked set for second place in our group so we're right on pace.

as for the league, that's more daunting.

It wasn't so much a different set up in that first game Ted as a team just learning to play how the new manager wanted them to in a pre season game. The reality is that they have learned quickly how to play his way and refined that to handle City on the night.

I just wish we learned as quickly or is it that we don't quite have the players top play Pellegrini's way?

Personally I'm not downcast at all about yesterday, I'm actually very upbeat about the whole thing.

I didn't want Mancini sacking, but I said at the time that if I had some proof that Guardiola's methods would work in the Prem, I would fuck Bob off in a heartbeat as I don't think he's even fit to tie his shoelaces.

I recon we narrowly missed Pep, probably because of Bob winning the league, & therefore staying but I wasn't convinced Pep's methods would transfer outside Spain anyway, so I wasn't that arsed.

What I saw yesterday, was absolute proof that it would work with non Spanish players & not only that; it would work possibly at another level to Barca.

Well our whole fucking club is being geared up to be taught to play like that & a lot of the best kids being taught it are from fucking Manchester.

I don't give a fucking flying shit about all you Mancini felching cunts, & I don't give a shit about Pellegrini. I've seen the end result of what we are trying to achieve last night & you can shove your Mancini up your arses. That was better than anything him or Mourinho or any of those characters will ever do & it's exactly what our club is trying to do,& they want to do it with a hard core of players from our area.

We are building something very special, unheard of in this country, & eventually we will see the results of it. Then, we are going to scare the living shite out of this league & then possibly most of Europe.

They played with a striker & put in crosses etc, a big aerial threat, similar to when they beat us in Munich. This was Barca.

Edit: I don't think 'Pellegrini's way' would beat that system if it played 100 times. We were outnumbered.

I did think after listening to Pep last night how respectful he was about City and I do think that Pellers is a "safe"(maybe not!) pair of hands while PG does his Bayern thing before coming to City.

Well next we beat Everton and hopefully get back on track after our bizarre loss to Villa.

This game doesn't worry me when it comes to the premier league. That Bayern team and performance is one of the best we as a club are ever likely to face.

Saying that, I'm with the majority here in that it was obvious as hell we needed an extra midfielder. That fault lies with the manager, as does changing both full backs before such a big game.

I'm not panicking though, it is a cup competition. We should be the second best team in the group and I think we'll qualify for the next round as the second placed team. If that doesn't happen, then he has under achieved in this competition.

It's been a strange start to the season. One of the strangest I can remember. Breathtaking in the first game, shite in the next two and excellent for the most part since then, with a freak result at Villa Park and the best team in the world thrown in for good measure.

It's edge of the seat stuff so far - intriguing and unpredictable for every one of the top teams in the country.

I don't know much more now than when we first kicked off.

Don't worry I'll shout my opinion form the rooftops as usual... as soon as I can form one on this subject :)

You could be right but it could be that is 4 or 5 years away & maybe someone else who believes in the same methods would be firmly in place by then & successful, in which case they may stay on. If the Count adapts & lasts the course, I imagine Pep or Patrick Vieira will take over from him, depending on whether Vieira learns to be a manager.

Re: What Next?

Postby Colin the King » Thu Oct 03, 2013 11:06 am

What concerned me last night was the huge gulf in class between us and Bayern. Realistically, they are a better team than we are and arguably the best in Europe (and the current champions of course) but there's a difference between making a real effort to compete and losing out to a better team, and being utterly outclassed in all areas.

Secondly, the mentality from 2-0 down screamed "oh well, onto the next one". The players may as well have left the pitch and let Bayern pass the ball amongst themselves uncontested such was their dominance. It would be utterly naive to think we're at their level yet, but it's equally unacceptable to believe you're beaten until the final whistle.

It's still very difficult to gauge where we are, after playing champagne football against Newcastle & the filth, playing positively but fucking up away from home due to individual errors and then being outclassed by a superior team last night.

Two things I'd look for in the next month are - consistency: a run of solid if unspectacular 1 and 2 nil wins to get us back in contention in the league and secondly, adaptability: for the manager to recognise when his preferred methods aren't working and be PROACTIVE about changing them. We have the best squad of players in England who offer all kinds of options - so let's make the most of it and not constantly and stubbornly puruse one system.

Once we get a decent manager who can get the best out of the world class squad we have we might start enjoying football again regularly.

you guys hinting at getting rid of the manager are a sad indicator of the way our great fans have changed. The guy has been in charge for like 7 or 8 games, hasn't done that bad and you have to take into acount the bedding in period that was always going to happen. City fans of old would have given a manager a chance for the sake of the club and because we were decent footballing people. If you are seriously hinting that he should go already you obviously dont have the clubs well being in mind, only a hunger for some quick wins.
