The Sun definitely aren't in the second camp and I doubt most of their readers are. I'm not sure they're in the first either, but they do have 'Arry as a columnist and like to sell papers.

People playing the race card when it is clearly not relevant, belittles the whole issue & gives fuel to the genuine racists. You can just hear the fat necked cockney wanker spouting 'this is what they do all the time, it's all the same' as he peruses his copy of the Sun. People should know better but half the PC brigade are just as fucking stupid as the racists & actually help them gain support because they are forever trtying to show how enlightened & superior they are by finding a new cause.

Having now seen a bit more about the story, I don't think it has anything to do with the PC brigade, it's to do with selling papers.
If any normal person had been contacted by the player who's reported this, they would surely have explained to him what the story was about and that they had clearly misunderstood it. Instead, it's all over the news and everyone is talking about The Sun.
Hopefully England fans will start treating The Sun in the same way that Liverpool fans do.

Not being British I don't really know the context but this remark makes me think that it's more or less made up in order to feed the message that "the PC-brigade has gone mad". That's what the populist journals over here do anyway. They look for tiny groups or fractions of people or obscure phenomenon and then label their findings as proof of the pc-establishment who's trying to take over the world, kill humour and make sure women get to beat their men into sleep with a dildo, every day.

When I read that joke the thought it related to a black person never entered my mind and I doubt it did Roy's.
Pathetic, the way we are going........
