That looked bad.
The thing that I think people have to consider is that if the goalie on the other side had been paid to let 3 goals in how would anybody know.

wow i mean WOW that looks pretty damning.

All 3 goals look dodgy, but number 2 is the worst,he could easily fully clasp both hands to the ball and drop on it but chooses to guide it towards his net with hands wide open.

You could be well be right though i very much doubt it happens in the top echelons of the game. Players who are on huge wages are simply not going to risk it. Players in lower leagues however whose contracts are up or are near the end of career are a different story. After all the odds are no different in league 1/2 than the prem

The incentive to fix matches is almost universally financial, we are unlikely to see it in the Prem due to the high wages being paid to the players meaning it's just not worth their time. The weak link is the officials in my view though, and any scandal would almost certainly involve them.

Very true. Referees make decisions that are truly baffling that are batted away by saying he was 'unsighted' or 'it happenened so fast'. In the fullness of time i reckon at least one top natch official will admit ti taking bribes, either from bettong syndicates or from other clubs

I've always been surprised by the mistakes Cech makes for the Czech Republic in games that don't matter too much then pulls out top class saves in games that do. Could be just concentration levels of course......

Its not just goalies. The other players who can make difference to results is strikers.

Should a striker at the league champions score only once all season....

Well there is match fixing and the alternative of just being plain shit, how do you distinguish between them?

I'd let the courts decide that with a blue as judge

Probably right, but see my post about Gillespie above. If you are a gambler, you'll bet everything you have, whether that's £10 or £10m.

Whilst a lower league player may be tempted by a small bung to supplement his wages, a gambler may have to take it regardless of how much he's on.

Some time ago, a report was issued and covered in the media regarding a survey done of pro footballers. A significant nimber were players in the Prem.
It asked players what they most worried about in the game. Among the top answers were drug taking and match fixing.
Having initially reported on the findings, the media then promptly dropped it and now it seems to have been forgotten about.

None of our official bodies showed any interest to investigate why players involved and who would/should know what is going on within their ranks considered these issues a problem.

Is darren bent? After all twitchy got rid after he missed a sitter that his gran/mother/missus would have scored.

I thought he was harsh at the time as I have seen bucket loads of easier chances missed.

The naïvety expressed by some re match fixing is depressingly unsurprising. Here's an interesting article :

I've posted links to this site before, just about only John68 showed any interest.

No offense but that site reads like one of the conspiracy theory sites, big on conjecture and trying to weave together an overly complicated story out of assumptions and mud-slinging.

None taken. Let's face it though, how do you talk about match-fixing without talk of conspiracy? Isn't it all about individuals conspiring ro affect a match? Also, facts are used. Not saying it's 100% spot on necessarily, but it would be mental to.dismiss it out of hand because 'that sort of thing would never happen'. Or for any other reason I can think of.

What I said was it's unlikely, for the reasons I mentioned. Someone on a multi-million pound contract and with the prospect of several future contracts of increasing size not to mention other sponsorship/image rights deals as well would be far less likely to put that on the line for a one off bribe than a match official.

Still John Terry organises unofficial tours of the Chelsea training ground and pockets the money, Messi cheats on his taxes, and premier league players rent out / sell their allocated seats for big games...

And don't you think gambling addicts like Etherington, or drug addicts like Merson would be prone to accept a bribe or two?
