If we do need a new goalkeeper, the guy from Inter looks the business to me, arguably one of the best goalkeepers around at the moment.

Has he? I may be doing him an injustice but my mum could've walked over and stopped the first one on Saturday and she's 83. And as for those 'punches'..................

Only three goalkeepers have conceded less goals since he took over Hart. I say yes, yes he has.

Since taking over from Joe Hart in November, only three keepers - Tim Howard and Julian Speroni (5) and Tim Krul (6) - have conceded fewer goals than Pantilimon (7), of keepers to feature in all seven games.

I too think he's done a decent job, no more no less, but your evidence doesn't stack up as it doesn't take into account number of shots saved etc.

Considering Costel has got one of the best teams in the world in front of him, 'conceded' stats aren't really relevant. Especially compared with Palace for example.

There is a name i think we will have a go and that is Willy Caballero from Malaga, Peller”s ex keeper and a pretty good one imho.

I don't think it would be impossible getting Casillas, he even said he might have to move on to get more starts.

I like Weidenfeller, think he would be nice to have, that happening though is 0%

We really need Hart to return to form because he counts as home grown for CL squad. If we replace with a foreign keeper it just makes it tougher to meet the criteria.

Ideally he would recover his previous form AND improve on things like distribution where he has only ever been average.

Tim Krul would be a good signing imo.
Having said that I want us to give Hart one more chance.

Don't think Panti is the man for us. Joe was, and I hope still can be.
I don't think we will move for anyone is the Jan window.
At some point soon Joe will come back into the team and I hope he will be given the rest of the season to prove himself, or not.
As for Casillas then he's a good shot stopper and had loads of experience.
I'm not too sure how he would cope in the much more physical rough and tumble in English penalty areas. He isn't that tall and so could be found out.
Personally I would give Joe a go; tell him he is number one for the rest of the season and if it doesn't work out then we will get another true number one,not Panti.

no he doesn't - there's no such thing as homegrown for UCL, just "club trained," of which joe doesn't count. he's homegrown for PL play, but he vs. Costel vs. Casillas makes no difference for UCL.

I think we need a cover for RB as well with Richards again injured and out for min a month ... what's wrong with him, he plays 10 mins and is out for a month every fucking time I can remember now ...

Trixi though said in post-CL Draw interview that we are happy and not really getting one in Jan. Do we believe him?

Thanks for correction, but overall point, corrected for PL remains valid, that he is more valuable to us than another import if he is doing the business.

It does - there's 8 homegrown slots in CL squad of which 4 must be club trained.

GingeryBlue wrote:Joe hasn't become an awful keeper all of sudden. Anyone with any footballing knowledge can see that Joe is FAR superior a keeper to Panti (and almost every other keeper in the league) and simply made some mistakes as all keepers do, hence lost some confidence. Dropping him was as much to get him out of the spotlight as it was due to his form.

Every keeper has a mare at some point in their career. This is his. Bring him back for the Fulham game, and I'm pretty confident he'll be our number one again for a number of years.

I'd go with that. Yo has proved that he is legit world class keeper and I think he should get out of the doghouse. At least after christmas. Pants hasn't been shocking or anything but Hart simply is better keeper.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Re the chat some of us were having concerning keepers' ability to pass the ball, I've a feeling that Hart's future, along with the defenders' will be down to how well he adapts to the passing game.

Re English qualified players, we should fuck off people such as Kolarov & Garcia & replace them with English qualified players of the same, or better standard.

Squad players should not be using up our quota in the future. Same with Pantillimon.

That is an excellent point; if a player is only contributing to a limited number of games then we might as well get this additional qualification benefit from them too.

Which is why Hart should go nowhere. Binning the National keeper would be crazy imo.

i think this is the long term goal of the academy - to provide the squad players, so that city only have to purchase a few high priced players as finishing touches. if united were spending right, players like cleverly and welbeck would be fine as the 24th and 25th players in the squad. the fact that they haven't bought an effective CM since i can remember is a travesty.

a lot of the players at the U18 level i think have a shot to make the squad as we replace some of the squad players. we've already seen in with johansen as the 3rd keeper in the UCL squad - he's club trained/homegrown for qualification purposes.

IMHO the only reason Joe keeps goal for England is because he's the least shittest of the English keepers - not because he's a goalkeeping god.
If Joe wants to leave then lets see what he's worth in the market - I think we'll find that the reality is that we can't buy a keeper good enough to slot straight in at the highest level (one good enough for our aspirations) for the money that the market is willing to pay for Joe . . which ought to at least give a clue to the fact that Joe isn't good enough for us if we take the blue tints off.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

Ok you can usually make a case for most things in football - Palace have played West Ham, Cardiff, Norwich and Hull in the period referred to none of which are exactly prolific in font of goal this season
