John Guidetti has joined Stoke City on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old Swede has only made one appearance for the Blues so far but spent a successful spell on loan with Feyenoord during the 2011/12 campaign, scoring 20 goals in 23 games for the Eredivisie side.

Prio to that, Guidetti was on loan for a month at Burnley in late 2010.

Signed as a 16-year-old in 2007 by Sven-Goran Eriksson, Guidetti spent much of last season sidelined by injury problems, but the striker will now look to prove his worth at the Britannia Stadium where he joins former City midfielder Stephen Ireland and manager Mark Hughes.

He has agreed a deal with the Potters that will expire on 30 June, 2014. We will keep you informed of Guidetti's progress in our Loan Watch series.

This is great news as I've long wanted to see how he can perform in the premier league. I'd like to think that sparky will give him some chances so he should get some decent game time at stoke if he impresses.

Back with us next year as our 4th striker if he puts on a good showing or off to a club at his level if he isn't deemed to make the grade - at least he'll have some direction for his career whatever the outcome.

I would have thought Hughes is absolutley the perfect person for Guidetti to learn from. Similar strengths and weaknesses as a player, but nowhere near as good, yet.

This. But you know it's long since been anathema to say anything about Hughes which resembles objectivity. I happen to think he's doing an alright job at Stoke. They've had some good performances in the league coupled with a slight improvement on last year's league position. It's all about managers finding the right clubs. In hindsight, the City job was probably too big too soon for Hughes. He then went to Fulham, did a fine job, made a dick of himself and then left. QPR was a disaster but now he's doing pretty well at Stoke. Add in the jobs he did for Blackburn and Wales and he doesn't quite seem the joke of a manager that some people would have you believe. QPR was probably the ego-deflating reality check that he needed (unless he suddenly decides Stoke are beneath him, in which case I'll stand corrected). If he can pick up two players like Vinny and Zabba for them at a combined £12 million, we'll know that his speciality as a manager is improving lower-mid table teams.

I agree with you and to some extent think Hughes was a victim of circumstance at City. I was actually very happy with his appointment as he'd consistently got Blackburn inside the top 8 on a shoe string budget and he really had an eye for a bargain.
He signed for us and we all, before the season would have been relatively happy with top 8 imo. However, within hours almost, we were transformed into one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, our expectations rocketed. Added to the signing of Robinho, some media outlets were even suggesting us finishing in the top 4 that season.

He had to readjust almost immediately and suddenly had the whole world not only watching us but willing for us to slip up and were there ready to laugh at us when we did.
Then add that to the fact certain 'fans' refused to back him from day one simply because he played for Trafford.


Ultimately he wasn't good enough but still imo played an important part in our early transition and signed some great players. Zabaleta and Kompany are now two of our best players. Given was a good signing for us, Barry, Tevez, Lescott, Dejong and Bellamy also played a big part in our transition.

I think history will look back on him kinder than the majority of our fan base does.

Had he stayed and the Count played him to no success then it wouldnt have looked great for him or the Pellegrini. As someone mentions further up it could be simular situation to us loaning Hart out to Birmingham.

Jusf wish Torquay or Yeovil would come in for Garcia now ;-)

He started amongst an absolute shambles, with a team who had finished a season on relegation form, people going round selling players behind his back & signing players for money laundering purposes, then was in the middle of a takeover & given unlimited funds to spend on players who didn't want to sign for us. He steadied the ship very nicely & built a great backbone for the team.

But the important fact here is not what he did at City, but the fact that he was similar in many ways ability wise to Guidetti, but had a lot more games. Guidetti has missed a lot of crucial time on the pitch, & Hughes is someone who can help him with a few tricks of the trade, which he has missed out on learning for himself. He can get a crash course in PL centre forward play.

One thing Hughes was as a player is a sly/clever bastard who knew how to get the best from his abilities.

Personally i am not convinced we do have.Aguero is going to take a few weeks to get back up to speed,and Dzeko and Negredo look fucked right now.We could have done with resting both strikers tomorrow night for Cardiff at the weekend,and rested them at West Ham away,if we had a striker to replace them .

I thought Dzeko in particular looked great in the last two games. Negredo looked to me if he was carrying an injury about two weeks ago, but looks back to full speed now. A bit tired later on v Newcastle but still found enough to outrun their defence in injury time.
