Not an option I would be particularly excited about even though he has done very well at Swansea. He would not be going anywhere on the cheap and I can't help but think it could be a case of Wilfred Benjani if we do sign him.

Downside; Will piss off to the ACoN / we'll be forced to pay over the odds in the January window / by the time he settled in we'd have our other strikers back anyhow.

I think we should buy him. I know that I can't support that logically, what with the obvious downsides, but I'd like to see him in the squad because he's a bulldozer of a player (which is something we've not had since before Negredo injured his shoulder) and he's a strong front man who can hold it up with Aguero, Jovetic or Dseko playing off him (I know that Dzeko's had that role at times but he plays best as a supporting striker picking up the loose and flourishing on balls played back to him).

I think this is a really helpful summary of the pros & cons. I particularly agree with your comment about 'How would he perform vis-à-vis goal scoring, with the service our midfield would manifestly provide?'

I think he does 'bully' defences, very effectively, which we haven't had as a strategy for sometime. I think he might be the equivalent of Edin on steroids!

Like you Herb, despite the obvious flaws in this transfer, I intuitively think it could prove fruitful for City!

Did anyone saw Bony play in a rotation system? A system where he will not play every single game from the start?

Let's not forget that he refused to leave Swansea this summer because of that reason above.

i was wondering the same thing.

Perhaps but only in the summer imo.
You can always add on an extra 30-40% for January transfer fees. Swansea have no reason to sell and I can't imagine they'd want to.

For me January transfer window is about being shrewd eg signing Vieira on loan like we did a few years back.
You almost always pay over the odds for 'big transfers'.

Due to that and the fact that he'll miss a good portion of the second half of the season, I'd try and get him in the summer for about £20 million.

Can we even spend 20+ million in jan given ffp restrictions placed on us?

Austin is no where near good enough for us.

Bony on the other hand might improve us but im not sure. He is a good lone man, can hold the ball up, can pull defenders out of position and seems to be able to link quickly with players around him but i dont think he is technically good enough to improve us in that department. He misses plenty of chances for Swansea, he comes in and out of games like every other striker in the game.

i just feel playing against teams who sit back and put more pressure on the ball, Bony wont be able to pull the centre backs out of position as a midfielder will pick him up if he drops deep. He wont have as much time to control the ball at his feet with defenders and midfielder rushing him.

If Bony was coming in, to me it would mean Dzeko going out. Would be an interesting change, don't know if it's "the answer" to a problem we have ... but he does seem to remain pretty fit/injury free.

He would take around 30m though, that's a hefty price. Then again, when we come calling, everyone's price goes to about that mark anyway.

I said this elsewhere. I'm not sure the two are right for the squad long term, so it could lead to Ed leaving eventually.

Both Bony & Ed are stand up there & chest the ball down type characters, but even then, not really experts at setting up a fellow striker. Both would rather be the bloke receiving the ball to score, with someone feeding them, rather than vice versa.

That means in theory they could both be competing for the job of 3rd striker next season, assuming we did then sign a player more suited to Pellegini's system & working with Aguero. Aguero Dzeko Reus or Aguero Bony Reus looks a better blend for the squad than Aguero Dzeko Bony.

I'm sure he'd bag loads of goals at City though, (& miss loads). If the Count decides to sign him & can make it work, I'll just trust in him. He was dead right with Negredo & Navas giving us something extra.

Bony is very different from Dzeko imo. Excellent at pressing the ball high up the pitch( which Pellegrini really wants from his forwards) which Dzeko isn't but probably not as good at Dzeko in the air; he's not that tall. He holds up the ball really well whereas Dzeko is a bit hit or miss in that department. I'd think he would be very good at bringing Aguero into play and of course he's a decent goal scorer. If he comes it's not remotely a panic buy for January because he's off to the ACON imminently isn't he? More like a slightly delayed replacement for Negredo and a pretty good one at that who's a proven premiership player, clearly headed for a bigger Club than Swansea. We need four strikers whatever happens imo.

Rags missing out on Climate again would be a massive blow for them. Can't see it happening but it would be bloody fantastic.

I find climate to be somewhat overrated. Although humid I to speak with such authority on matters like this?

Help me guys; Climate?

Separately, Bony on the bench today, Mr. Lineker MOTD, spoke about it being "his last goal (and game) for Swansea?" ……and what a great goal it was!

I think he'll be a City player next week; just hope Ivory Coast go out of the ACON in the knock out stages, and we get back Yaya & Bony early!

Toure worked his 'cotton socks off, today' and his goal was an Exocet! He must feel he's shaken off the early season criticism of his performances?
