Fair enough, but I think it should be said that his performance was not worse than that of the team as a whole. It's hard to have a good day when your team clearly isn't.

No arguments from me but this thread is discussing Kolarov, I was just giving my thoughts on how he performed.

I don't think he had a bad game, just wasn't as good as his previous performances this season.

Maybe we've seen Sterling pinning the opposition full backs so far back that Kolarov has only really had a right winger to play against.

Its quite possible other teams saw our left as one of our few weaknesses in recent years. They are now worried about our attacking strength down the left (and right, and middle, and through and over the top!).

Fair enough, I see your point.

I'm not sure Mase will though...

I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

I don't think he's necessarily done anything better than the contributions he's made in the past, but the system and protection ahead of him allows him a bit more freedom going forwards and little to do defensively so plays to his strengths and avoids his weaknesses.

Having said that, what little he has had to do defensively he has done reasonably well, but I'd agree with other comments that he was pretty much back to normal again defensively on Saturday the minute the team's setup didn't suit his game.

He's a good asset to have in the present system though, there's no denying that and long may it continue

What happend with the fella?

Had a few minutes with Scouse and since then, nothing. Every game on the bench, he is not getting in at all, while Clichy is at best mediocre. Not to say that Kola is our saviour, but still.

Clichy was the right choice yesterday

Clichy is a better LB than Kolarov, weird to drag this up as a point from yesterday.

If anything play Kolarov left side of midfield. No one else does any good there.

Yes, but why we do not rotate them like we used to do?

Kolarov imo is a much better overall player than Clichy. He is great going forward, links up well with Nasri before and Sterling now, best crosser in the team for a while now, good at freekicks, and he is not scared to take on a defender. While we could argue that his defence capabilities is not strong as his attack, he is still decent in that area. Physically strong, and he is not afraid to go for sliding tackle when needed.

I just dont understand why Pellers would pick Clichy before Kolarov. If he wants to play attacking football then pick players who can actually do that.

I agree with that. It's a myth that clichy is somehow superior defender. Faster yes but that's about it

Personally I'd use Kolarov in majority of home games esp.when we will have loads of possession and Clichy when oppo has a quick winger

He's not scared to take on a defender? You mean when he does that stupid flick thing and then has to run around the other side of the ball to get it on his left by which time the defender he's just beaten is in front of him again?

TBH clichy is much faster than kolarov but he is still not as quick as most wingers. If we are going to go for the throat we would need kola to push up and make their winger defend

Compared to Clichy who doesn't even get out of his own half, he probably means.
