I brought my wife and young lad to that before and we all enjoyed it. A lot of interactive stuff.
I'm over for the same match but taking the ferry and driving.
Usually when we go over my son likes to get to the ground early and soak up a bit of the City Square atmosphere.
Certainly when he was younger he just couldn't wait to get out to the ground and there's usually something for the kids to do.
This time around I'm going to try and get there on time for a shandy in The Townley. Open his eyes to a bit of that atmosphere.

is he a star wars fan??

Lol

Well it's there or Star Wars II, Mary D's.
He's seen the civilized Manchester.

Do you reckon it's a bad idea.

Nowt wrong with the Townley imo .

Mmmm...the Townley should surely make him want to be a fan of any other team in the world unless he has a penchant for the reminiscent scent of "almost" or "couldabeen."

Take them somewhere nice per the suggestions above and then pop into City Square....i love just soaking up the atmosphere there on a matchday. Even 2 hours before a match. Take a walk the whole way around the stadium looking at the awesomeness on the outside of the stadium. Pop into the City store. Have a couple scoops, and then find something fun to eat. Before you know it you've killed 1-2 hours and yr buzzing for the match.

The Townley's fine and all that, but it's the last place in the world i'd head if i wasn't meeting some old friends and/or i had my family with me. Even just the lad. It's more than a bit shite. It's depression-inducing. No joke. I'm getting too old and cynical to maintain an appreciation for certain things I suppose.

cheers

I know where your coming from. That's been our routine up until now.
We've walked by Mary's but couldn't bring myself to take him inside.
He loves City Square.
I was wondering if I should leave The Townley this time around as well, maybe leave it until I get my brother over for a game.

Get in the city center bars and pubs , beltin craic then just grab a black cab to the Etihad half an hour before kick off ;-)
Pubs around the ground are like something out of shameless lol :-)

There seems to be a love/hate relationship with the place and Mary D's, for City fans on here.
Town would actually suit better I suppose. Leaving the car at Piccadilly. Where's good around there. Only places I've been were up at the Printworks and didn't allow colours showing, as far as I remember.
I'll be driving later around 10pm so won't be drinking anyway. Just looking for a bit of atmosphere.

I love Mary Ds. Loud Manchester music with a partisan DJ and crowd singing along..... in a very pro city manner. It's at its best around 2pm. It's a bit rough though if your lad is a young un.

A knocking shop? Do you think Navas could score in there?

Look, the Townley is a shithole. But that's the charm of it. And i think the charm wears off if you try and appreciate it too often or with the wrong crowd.

Everytime i've been to Manc i've been to the Townley for a bit, either before or after a match, sometimes both. But i can tell you that it's the people and not the place that would draw any of us in, surely.

If your mates are going, you'll pop in. If they aren't then popping in there isn't the best beer/service/bog experience you'll have with so many places to choose from around.

I'm not trying to be an elitist cunt, but just stating the obvious about the joint really. I'd be there in a heartbeat to spend time with friends gladly without one complaint if that's where the crew wanted to indulge. BUT if i was coming over with the family i sure as fuck would rock up at the goddam Townley and be proud of myself. It's like the pub version of an old dirty wank sock hidden in the back of your drawer. You won't accidentally put it on for Sunday Church with your gran will ya? A: No.

cheers

So is that a yes or no for the Townley with a thirteen year old son.
I'm confused as hell.
Bad and all as it is it still sounds better than taking him to a knocking shop....
Yeah thanks for that one lads.

At 13 he may be better off in the Townley than Mary Ds. I'm not sure where is better in the city centre. I usually go to the printworks too if I'm in the centre usually because there is an early kick off game on. Unless someone comes up with a top suggestion in the centre then the Townley it is. It's near the ground/city square etc.

THIS is exactly the routine City want for families.

Fair enough. How will I recognise you Gillie. I'll be wearing a blue jersey. (with a strawberry daiquiri stain down the front)
How about you wear a pink carnation.

You don't think the Spafia want them at the Townley for the nuts and some pints? And the carpeting? Odd. The car park is a classic tho.
