Relegation. Who is going?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I think we can look at the likely suspects.

Sunderland - Terrible performances, terrible squad, if they stay up it'll be up there with 93:20.
Aston Villa - Sherwood is a fraud, I have every confidence he'll see them down, even if Lerner comes to his senses and sacks him.
Newcastle - Squad is too good to go down, but McClaren? He could really be the reason they go down, but I see them staying up inspite of him.
West Brom - Horrible drama surrounding Berahino and he's still not performing, they need rid of him ASAP and hopefully too much damage hasn't been done.
Bournemouth - Love their passion, will only last half a season at most, limited resources will have them fading.
Norwich - Only beaten WBA and Bournemouth and been generally unimpressive otherwise, they could get dragged in as they've not faced a top 4 side yet.
Watford - Recent form has dragged them clear but again, terrible squad and could easily fade in the second half. Also, fuck Ben Watson.

I was hoping Newcastle would go down mainly because of McLaren but I liked how they were cheering their team on when they were 6-1 down, and how they applauded Kun when he went off, so I hope they sack McLaren and stay up instead.

They are half decent and likeable fans. Always have a great time in ' The Toon'
And the ones I see at work are honest about their club and team.

I have a soft spot for NUFC and the fans I've met over here have always been nice, knowledgeable chaps. I hope they stay up and they should with that squad.

I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

We've had a few nasty incidents in pubs in Newcastle city centre over the years, and I've been in their end at a few of their away games when they have been a bit naughty inside the ground toward the home club's staff and stewards.

Their typical fans are sound enough though.

I reckon they will stay up comfortably, they have a good team and the first half against us and the first 70 mins against Chelsea shows they have the talent and spirit needed to stay out of trouble.

I can't see past Bournemouth being fucked now. Villa will be safe, they just need to replace Benteke properly in January and hope they aren't too far off the pace by then.

Sunderland, Bournemouth, Norwich for me

Sunderland are looking abject right now, but they do have the odd decent player in Lens or M'Vila and with a new manager might claw themselves out of the absolute bottom. Nah, not really. That defence is just too grim. What were they thinking adding such turds as Coates & Kaboul to their already existing pile of shit?

Newcastle's squad is just a clusterfuck. How can you go into the season with no senior back up fullbacks while spending £40m on attacking potential? And Mike Williamson. I really rate Wijnaldum and Mitrovic (if he can keep his head in place), but Thauvin has a bit of the Lamela/Depay about him, only a notch below. Compared to Payet (same price, same club), a much bigger gamble for a club that needed proven quality badly.
They have an ok, mid-table-ish squad on paper otherwise (lots of injuries now though), but so they did the last time they went down - thanks to a substantial contribution from Alan Shearer. Spot the similarities!

Tim Sherwood will drag Villa down, if he stays.

Bournemouth will struggle heavily, very unfortunate with the long-term injuries to Wilson, Gradel and Mings.

I think Pulis will muddle through somehow. They've already played us, Chelsea, Southampton and Everton and the one point is about as much as they should expect from those fixtures. I rate Rondon & Berahino to provide some fire power in their otherwise drab collection of 17 centre backs.

A bit curious, but how much money did Bournmouth really got for their promotion? Money from the FA and TV Rights?

I am asking because their transfer activity this summer was very low, under the radar. I am thinking they have a smart management, if they relegate, they will now have overpaid mercenaries that will put them into a financial bad situation, but with almost the same squad, they can come back right in, however, look how that worked for Burnley.

Sunderland, too bad for Pants, Watford/Bournmouth and Villa. I think it is time for Villa to go down. I am sad for their fans, City ex-players and so on, but they are a joke of a team that occupies a spot in the Premier that they do not deserve.

dunno how much they got for coming up or when they get it...but i'd guess it's perhaps 30-40M, don't you think?

WRT their transfers iirc they bought their two most expensive players in their history and probably spent on the order of 20M or so i bet. Not exactly small considering their size. And i'd bet that with Prem-style wage bills they didn't squirrel away tens of millions and not invest it.

Newcastle should survive with that squad, Sunderland are fucked though! Bournemouth will really struggle once we get to December and beyond. Might be Villas time to go down unless Norwich or Watford fade away.

The money bournemouth got for promotion is irrelevant as they are owned by a rich backer maxim denim who has Russian money.

They are also ran by Jeff Mostyn who is a lifelong City fan.

Yes, but logically, they would buy someone that can help them stay up, Callum Wilson was a surprise and his replacement Glen Murray. Imagine trying to stay up with Glen Murray up front. They need to have a good run until january and then buy someone who can score. You can argue he scored this week, but when he was really needed, he missed a huge pen.

i'm sorry...they bought their two most expensive signings ever, who are not both injured and i think out for the season, right?

i'm not sure where you can fault their transfer logic in spending on some mid-table quality at never before seen prices for their club.

According to transfermarkt, the brought in Mings and Gradel 15 mil (7 + 7.9 mil) and Murray, for almost 4 mil. The rest were free or loaned. So yes, a record for them, but I am just looking at their offensive options. They have providers, but they have Murray which I think they wanted to be only a cover for the first team, but now they are in the situation where they need him to score

My only concern is why did they buy Murray instead of someone who could actually be a competition for Wilson.
