Amazing how some of you are so concerned about whether Sterling dives, or not.
Gil dives over Otamendi's leg; gets Nico carded; & Villa got the exact type of free kick, that they used to take points from City, in the past.
If Sterling dives, then why did the City players & Pellegrini think that Clark's tackles on Sterling warranted some penalty kicks?
Yes, keep on obsessing over Sterling's honesty, while the refs keep rewarding City's opposition for non-contact tackles!
Match commentary, courtesy of Goal.com:
-39'-Yellow Card Nicolás Otamendi
Otamendi becomes the first man to go into the referee’s book this afternoon as Gil goes down under pressure from him. The replay shows that the Villa man hits the deck without any real contact from the former Valencia defender.
-Gil drives through midfield, hurdles over the challenge from Otamendi and goes down looking for a free-kick. The referee obliges to the disgust of the City defender. This is a great chance for Villa to take the lead.

37'-NO SPOT-KICK! De Bruyne plays Sterling through on goal but he checks inside onto his right foot rather than go with his left and falls down after some contact from Clark. The referee waves away his appeals for a penalty yet again in the first half.
29'-NO PENALTY! De Bruyne cuts inside from the left and plays a good pass away from Richards towards an onrushing Sterling, who gets blocked off by Clark but the referee ignores City’s protests for a spot-kick.
