Urghhhhh.

If I tickle you I've made contact, could you the accentuate the tickle for a penalty?

This is such an annoying blue tinted stance everyone is taking. A dive to me is when contact doesn't force you to the ground, you force yourself.

I'm not bovvered about the pen decision though. As long as the ref is consistent that's all that matters.

The game is moving too quickly to know in real time. This creates the Italian Tragicomedy we've all come to know and love called "the dive."

Players that sell it more, get it more and they want to win so that's that. Some are shit at drawing contact and others are great at it and yet still don't go down (see our Kun par example).

Sterling isn't that lightweight for me. He had mild contact and he tried to make something happen. It was nothing like an embarrassing Ashley Young or even a Micah moment.

I would suggest replays on all pens given for removing the divers with a straight red if you dive. Should sort it within a fortnight as you fucks say. Two weekends of matches and it'll be cured.

Replay is the key here. Come on.

Cheers

We wouldn't be having this debate if the ref's were given more retrospective powers than they have currently.

At the minute a player can be banned for three matches IF the opposing player appeals being sent off as a result of such a dive or feigning of injury.

The ref should note the time of any claimed dive and look at it after the match with the benefit of slow motion, applying retrospective red card and the fuckers would soon stop doing it (except Young who i believe to be beyond help).

Too tough you say? bollox is say!! get tough and clean the game up

To be fair, what would be the point in a replay in this instance? We've seen in 100 times and opinion in still split.

he was a diving cunt for the dippers, you expect him to change over night? If anything it shows his lack of confidence ( or skill) to take the shot. Hope he wind his neck in. We've won the league twice without resorting to that shit or favours from the refs.

Amazing how some of you are so concerned about whether Sterling dives, or not.
Gil dives over Otamendi's leg; gets Nico carded; & Villa got the exact type of free kick, that they used to take points from City, in the past.

If Sterling dives, then why did the City players & Pellegrini think that Clark's tackles on Sterling warranted some penalty kicks?

Yes, keep on obsessing over Sterling's honesty, while the refs keep rewarding City's opposition for non-contact tackles!

Match commentary, courtesy of Goal.com:
-39'-Yellow Card Nicolás Otamendi
Otamendi becomes the first man to go into the referee’s book this afternoon as Gil goes down under pressure from him. The replay shows that the Villa man hits the deck without any real contact from the former Valencia defender.

-Gil drives through midfield, hurdles over the challenge from Otamendi and goes down looking for a free-kick. The referee obliges to the disgust of the City defender. This is a great chance for Villa to take the lead.
-
37'-NO SPOT-KICK! De Bruyne plays Sterling through on goal but he checks inside onto his right foot rather than go with his left and falls down after some contact from Clark. The referee waves away his appeals for a penalty yet again in the first half.

29'-NO PENALTY! De Bruyne cuts inside from the left and plays a good pass away from Richards towards an onrushing Sterling, who gets blocked off by Clark but the referee ignores City’s protests for a spot-kick.

Sometimes when I see people's posts on here I'm almost certain that they're related to the player in question.
Either that or they just can't have a normal debate with a fellow fan without trying to force their opinion on them claiming it as fact.

We all see things differently and have differing opinions. That's why we come on here.

Welcome to this forum and as you're a Southampton supporter, it is great to get an outside perspective.

The bigger concern is that all the Premier League teams are not getting legitimate penalty kicks, from the refs.

The recent penalty kick shouts for Sadio Mane vs Chelsea, immediately comes to mind.

Gil's dive was worse and reprehensible. Still doesn't make Sterling's a penalty.

Where's City64? some people are actually comparing Sterling to Ashley Young. he needs to come in here and berate them.

My last post on this topic, it's my opinion that people are letting the fact that Sterling has a tendency to go down easy prejudice them against the fact that he was fouled by Clark in this instance.

Of course they will. He needs to stop diving if he doesn't want that rep. 2-3 times a match recently will have that effect.

I'm not rewatching that tedium but I clearly remember 2.

At least 2 possibles v Seville from memory too.

How are you not seeing this? Even the votes show that most people know he's fallen over this season.
