You and most City fans but I just don't see Pellers having the bottle for that. We might have to hold out till he comes on.
It's not just about having the bottle, is it? If Bony was to be dropped in favour of the kid then it could have an adverse effect, Bony could throw in the towel like Dzeko did last season which will effectively leave us a striker short for the remainder of the season. Keeping Iheanacho humble could also factor into his thinking, he's nurtured the likes of Cazorla and Isco in the past so I trust he knows what he's doing.
I do not mean to sound disrespectful, but this is the same storyline with a lot of us sport fans versus being a manager of a the first team of s club like ours. We tend to lean toward loving to see young players get a chance when there is a seemingly legitimate challenge for someone's place a team. Even as enlightened as we may be, and I don't want to insult anyone as I have immense respect for many posters here (Doug, you, in this case) but as I have my own biases, I have seen this same pattern played out regularly from fans of other teams in other sports.
Being a manager of multimillionaire athletes is a very difficult job that involves carefully balancing man management with the needs of the club and your own personal ambitions and survival. If a player you invest fairly heavily in as a replacement for someone you just shipped out and is a veteran with a good track record what message does it send to players to drop them just now? This is after they have scored 5 goals in 8 games and has had the worst string of luck with health in their career right after joining and previously performing at his best and now entering his prime years.
We are top of the league and Aguero is a constant worry to become injured for periods of time. Sterling is not as reliable and I am excited about nacho but we cannot mess around like that just yet. Destroying Bony's confidence, which is already fragile now I suspect, is doing us no good when we are also finally getting silva and kdb fit.
I'm not questioning fans' concerns too strongly as yes he needs to improve but I'm not so sure dropping him now is a good idea when kun is about to come back again and we need unity in the squad to make it through the season. We will need bony too and if he still struggles Nacho will maybe get more chances. He is the future of the club and we are not utd and need to rely on a teenager to find ways to score.
I respect the idea that Nacho's form has been more consistent but his lack of experience and needs to manage the team carefully weigh more than the risk of starting him over Bony just yet.
