Now we are seeing vastly inflated prices for quite frankly, average players. If we are going to sign players at the peak of their game we have to pay up. I'd sooner pay £50m for Bonucci than £40m for Stones.

Pep wants a new centre half. Or maybe even two. Thus we will be getting a new centre half or two. Might as well go balls deep and get the best available at the moment

Yes, and there is no one else we can bring in that fits the need. He will surely be good enough for 2-3 seasons so we can figure out who to bring in next when that time comes. If Pep remains, that could very well be Laporte, or we will search out/monitor talent that has the potential to become suitable.

The money is really not that much of an issue right now.

Bonucci is past it?

Nope but he is very much the wrong side of 25.

Why is 25 the line? 29 isnt that bad. Comparing Bonucci to MDM is an insult to the former

Because 25 means he has resale value towards the end of his contract.

Whatever we pay for a 29yo is written off.

I'd rather pay absurd money for a proven world class defender in his prime than for another dodgy, soft twat that has 'resale value', but can't actually defend.

And 29 is like 25 in Italian centre back years anyway,

I think our financial planning is done with a view to always keep players until the end of their deals no matter if they're 20 or 30.
Wouldn't the earlier sales of players would screw up our accounting too? And isn't that the reason we do these loan deals at the end of our players contracts instead of selling them on?

If we can get even 3 good seasons from a proper top class CB, I can tell you even £100m would be money well spent.

And how's that resale value going for us with Mangala and Nico right now?

Spot on.

Milan got Nesta when he was 27 and look what happend there. Also, in many times, when we signed "old" cunts, they helped us a lot now and in our old times: Berkovici, Bosvelt, Bellamy, Pizzaro, Paddy, etc.

We had our share of misses, no doubt, Maicon being the top in that and Weah also, but in general they end up good for us. Sign the fucker and let's win this.

Probably the only one that we paid a decent clip for was Bellamy.

And I bitched about the price at the time and to this day don't think I was wrong. Not even sure it was an age thing for him, he had injury issues and went on strike at West Ham, yet we still paid a lot for him. Great player to have, no denying that, paid too much for him.

I would have added Fernandinho to that list if I were you, much better example.

38 came from Italian media (and was denied by the club), 51 from Jamie Jackson in the Guardian.

So, basically bollox by the Manchester correspondent who supports a team that doesn't even come from Manchester.

Just another made up story to beat us with if it does or does not come off.

Can't stand the Rag cunts, and their supposed fans are even more gullible.

I suspect they were playing hardball and being unreasonable on the fee so we went cold on them. They have now got Benatia in and see Bonucci as a cash cow and have reopened negotiations. Hopefully it will put us in a significantly stronger position to negotiate the fee down.

The thought of signing Bonucci is great. He is a million miles better than Stones etc. However, we have abdolutely no interest in him. We never have had. We are just as close to signing Alan Hansen as we are to Bonucci.
