Kun Swansea, Van Buyten was a class above anything we had at the time, top debut.

For the era Van Buyten was like a Porsche amongst Ford Escorts, we couldn't even scrape together the £1.5m to buy him! We've come a long way...

I think I went to that game. Was it 1978? Barnes ended up with 2 shiners and Paulo Rossi played?

That was it - 1978 for sure and I think it was a 2-1. Just looked it up, Barnes was there and Woodcock scored both goals for us and Bagni for Italy apparently. Doesn't say about Rossi.

I remember Gordon Dalziel in the 83/84 season.

His first game was away at Chelsea and early on, the ball was played along the touchline to him. He was heavily marked but played a back-heal infield and went for the return.

We thought we'd got a wizard on the wing but he was flattering to deceive. Thereafter, he only played a handful of games for us before leaving.

Much ado about nothing really and very disppointing.

Gary Mason looked very good in the 7-1 win v Notts County.

Must be the way I am wired but the debut I remember most was samaras. He came on like a raging bull and was lucky not to be red carded and then stayed out after the game and went and applauded each stand.

At the other end of the spectrum was Lee Bradbury, shocking. £3m for that useless twat but we couldn't scrape together £1.5m for Van Buyten about 15 years later.

Trevor Francis at Stoke. Scored twice, I think he set up the other, over half the crowd were Blues, we won 3-1 and genuinely thought we had a top class player to lead us to the title.

I couldn't believe how many blues were in that ground that day they had to open part of the ground that they normally kept shut. As for tricky Trev he became a sick note mores the pity.

Fun fact I was in the stand for that game and when he scored remarked how that should buy him some time to settle now.

March 1972

City 5 points clear at the top

What could possibly go wrong

First game for the charismatic Rodney Marsh....

Seriously though 20 mins of Aguero is a no brainer.

Leeds fans used to sing, to the tune of Ilkley Moor; "two points at home and one away....."; which bought into Don Revie's cynical approach to the game.

Ali B for me, we did not see that control and running a game until Silva but he didn't do it first game
It may be my last year as a season ticket holder as it just doesn't seem the same with so few English and local players (but I said that last year)

Purely for comedy value, Barry conlan. He came on as a second half sub, he wasn't even on the team sheet on the back of the match day program. As he came on, we're all applauding in the north stand when his name was announced and the entire stand just went "who?"

It was glorious and perfectly summed up late 90s city.

Aguero is the best tho.

I'd second both those PBL. I also remember Geovanni as it was the first season of our Brazilian era scored the winner against West Ham on debut and then the goal against the rags the week after.

I was on holiday and in times where fellow blues where few and far between we rocked the pub that day
