Better in his prime for sure
Not expressing a view, but how many cup finals did Gerrard score in?
4 cup finals including the champions league. In fact, he's the only player to score in fa, league, UEFA cup final and champs league final.
Not bad at all.
Right so. I think that makes your first line quite funny.
All we are saying is give Doug a pass.

Well that number would have to be converted into goals per game or per year for it to make sense. Otherwise you are giving gerrard 2-3x the amount of time to get 1 more goal in a final.

Slippy Me led them to mediocrity, Yaya and co led us to the heights that not many can fathom. Looking at their careers, then Yaya is just ahead but looking at what they accomplished individually?
Only one winner here.

With both at their absolute best for a one off game I'd take Yaya.
For consistency over their career I'd take Stevie G.

Not sure it makes sense to compare the two in the first place. De Bruyne is much closer to what Gerrard used to be than Yaya. Great engine, fantastic delivery and goal threat. Yaya on the other hand was better in bursts with his legendary runs and is quite comfortably the best short passer among the three, no contest.

If you're only considering Yaya during his time at City, then sure. But if you take into account his time at Monaco & Barcelona (and I don't know why you wouldn't), then it's Yaya every time.

I love Yaya...but this is not correct, mate. Never scored in a CL final...not sure about UEFA either.

Gerrard was more versatile ; played every outfield position for the Scouse.

A prime Yaya beats a prime Gerrard - I'd say Yaya was better on the ball when he decided to go on a run, probably dwelled on the ball a bit more than Gerrard, I'd say they were about equal when it came to shooting, I'd favour Yaya slightly ahead of Gerrard for alround passing (Gerrard liked to play to the cameras with 'hail Mary' pass attempts far to often for my liking - Yaya's passes were almost always well considered) and Yaya has/had better vision. All of it in my opinion.
