what was, is that we are 5-10% below par. For various reasons. That % drop means we get stuffed by the officiating.

When we are 100% we are too good for the officials to stop us, bar a few occassions when they put extra effort in like the CL vs murderers.
We just dont get any breaks, so when we are not quite at the races either in defence or with finishing then the margin for the officials to tip it are there for them to be had. ( so they do )

The defence apart from Mendy was ok today, goal was an Ederson fuck up. So at least maybe the defence is on the road to recovery.

Some have pointed out that it is in Midfield that the root our problems lie. I think that is correct.
Guardiola teams have to have a couple of players that glue the whole thing together, over the last few years that would be a combo of DS, Gundo, BS and Kev + Fern supporting.
Without all that stitching play the system breaks down and we basically play more like a normal team.... BUT while thinking we are still playing the Guardiola way.

Normally we pull teams around until gaps appear and we get clear simple chances - Look at how many different players normally score plenty of goals - because they get those opportunities.

I think Gundo will go straight back in the team, because without him Rodri cannot stitch it all together. DS and Gundo can turn and turn and turn and shake off the oppo gaining time for others to set themselves etc etc. That is how G. teams control the space in the approach to the final 3rd, Xavi etc did exactly the same fucking thing, AND the key point is, like DS were that good at it, that even knowing it you still cant stop them.

Guardiola has changed his style a bit, but still relies on it as a method of frustrating the oppo as they know they cant get the ball. That's why Gundo plays all the fuckin time even though he slows shit up.

Why im saying all this is because i genuinely beleive that Guardiola doesn't know or believe in any other basic tactic.
So if it doesn't work - like vs Klipperty or we dont have the glue players, then it unravels a bit and we look lacking in confidence.

With Gundo and BS in together Kev will get his space back, Foden will look like DS mkII and we will mostly storm over teams again creating enough chances to mask over dubious finishing, everyone happy, milk and honey all round and the bent world of football cant quite stop it.

Personally i'd prefer fast attacking, bit more edgy football than watching Gundo play keep ball, but i'm not paying the wages am i.

Totally agree with all that.

But, gundo returning - he will play WITH rodri (a losing combo 99% of times) and will force foden or silva (our top 3 most creative players) either on the wing or the bench.

Listen , Phil Foden is a good young player, However he is a long way off what we need in midfield. people talk about Gündo , slowing things down. That is not accurate. Our wingers slow things down all the time . Mahrez is simply not able to get past a player on the wing. He always turns the ball back, slowing the attack down. Mendy , simply cannot make a cross and Razzi blows hot and cold. Rodri is not the problem. It is in front of goal where we are now struggling and We cannot rely on Razza - he blows hot and cold.

Can gundo play the dinho role? Ie . Just one ducking defensive mid? If hes better there than rodri then gundo straight in and rodri is a benched player.

But we know he plays them both and we always concede - but also nullify the attack.

Well...... When we won the title back to back , It was Gundo that publicly said, we are good enough to win every game in the run in , which we did.
He also played in all of those games because of injuries to other midfielders and - because he was good enough .

As promising as youg Phil is . The experience some of the older players have cannot be infused into the younger players. It takes time. Phil went missing in midfield after about 15 minutes today. Should Rodri be doing his job too ? Mahrez, ? well what can i say , Pep you blew it on this one , almost as bad as mendy.

I am at a loss to understand why Pep doesn't start Bernado ahead of Mahrez and young phil.

Fair.

But like lee dixon said it was like both teams had no midfield.

Bernando hasnt got full fitness yeah so I hope he comes in but we end up forcing him wing because of precisely that problem.

Let's try:

Kev bernando
Gundo

what was, is that we are 5-10% below par.

We lose almost every time Rodri and Gundogan play together. It is an awful midfield combo.

One of the issues we have is that Fern used to be able to play the defensive midfielder role by himself meaning we had more attacking players on the pitch.

But since Rodri has arrived, Pep often plays him with another defensive midfielder, which reduces our attacking effectiveness and actually appears to add no protection for our defence.

I think Rodri is a decent footballer but he’s clearly a step down from Fern and it’s upsetting the overall balance of the team.
