The thought that we needed John Stones yesterday didn't cross my mind once?

Stones was class last season, especially in the ‘big’ games. Laporte seems to be great against most opposition, but I’ve noticed in some of the bigger games he doesn’t play as well. I think with the games coming thick and fast the past week, we could have done with swapping Stones and Laporte for some of the games as Laporte is just coming back from injury.

Not sure if that’s the same as what PP’s opinion is.

We definitely could have done with being able to rotate them over the course of some games recently, that's for sure. I just didn't ever get the feeling yesterday that we were missing Stones.

Really disappointed by him. Had expectation he learned, he was superb last year and made our defense incredible. This year he returned to being a cunt, injured, out of the squad, and so on which ultimately brings Laporte in key moments, a player, which, IMHO, is a big liability and weak spot in big games.

Are you privy to any inside information on the Stones injury situation then? Is it due to him behaving unprofessionally?

I’d love to know why he’s injured constantly for us (apart from then he needs a new contract) but when England play in a tournament where it’s more likely he’ll struggle to be fit for a lot of matches in a short space of time he’s always fit and ready to go. Really pisses me off.

Mase posted after you pal.
Is something we all know. Don't need to understand the injury situation to understand what is the cause.
It's a pattern with him.
Just remember there were reports Pep was fuming he went and played for England early this fall.

Pep mentioned after the last international break that there’s some players that go and play every minute for their country and don’t look after themselves properly. It was obvious he was talking about Stones.

Our defence last season with mainly Stones conceded 32 in 38.
Our defence this season with mainly Laporte have conceded 13 in 21- far better ratio.

I think PP is saying Laporte has a fuck up in him more than Stones does. It’s true.

EDIT: I think Laporte has been great this season btw.

I don't agree Mase, I think Stones is far more likely for a fuck up. I agree he was very good last season but I feel a lot happier when Laporte is in.

Still early days for that ratio to work. We went on an 8 game no-goal conceived with them in the league. And he rotated a lot last year to keep Laporte happy.
Also I would add that more to Cancelo as a left back rather than Laporte. Cancelo being so much upfront, the opponent rw has less attacking role like he had with Zinch.

Also, Stones, when fit, dominates defenders with his physique and speed, while Laporte, doesn't.

That’s fair enough mate, there’s not much between the two. I guess I focus on that clearance off the line that Stones did against Liverpool a few years ago, but then again you could say that was his fuck up as he got in the way with Ed.

We’ve got two quality CBs to go with the best in the world. It annoys me that Stones puts England before City constantly though.

More likely, but he didn't, did he?
While Laporte, well: Lyon, Spurs. UCL.

Torn apart by Salah with every chance, by Son, and the list can continue. He lost the team last year after he slept with Spuds in the league.
Stonesy, like the Mangler (funny I know), plays really well in big games, but his mind is not on football.

I far more agree with Mase that we've got 2 top centre backs as well as Dias.
You've essentially mentioned 2 mistakes over 3 seasons. Salah has scored 1 World class goal against him. Son scored in 1 of the 3 games we played Spurs last year. He didn't score the winner in the Carabao Cup Final though.

Two mistakes really were crucial and will stick with us until we win that pot.
The problem is that he is an incredible SQUAD player to have, but you just know that in a crucial game, when the pressure will be really high, there is a big chance he will do something which will, ultimately cost us. Is just one of those players you just know it.

Also, when Dias is tired or injured, you need him and Stones to step up. And they failed to do that.

Stones made a major fuck up v PSG at home this season, luckily they fucked it up. Crucial game. High pressure.
Like I said 13 conceded this season, and if Rodri and Walker play against Leicester it's probably 11. How can you complain.
