Onto...plan C?
At a club that just sacked their manager for failing to get chumps league. Probably not the wisest of choices by the player and his team, unless they've been told who's next in the merry go round in west London
I think the Chelsea thing is as much to do with his wanting to live in London as much as anything
I think that story is utter bollocks, tbh.
Jorginho had already agreed to sign with us months ago. The issue was Napoli's chairman wanting a bigger fee.
We waited thinking he is coming.
I think Chelsea recently came in with a better offer after Napoli's chairman tried to sell Jorginho to Chelsea whilst dealing with them about Sarri.
Reportedly, City's transfer policy now is that an agreement is made with the player/agent and they won't go back and change it if another club comes in with a better offer. This played out, as we have heard from Sam Lee and is reported widely elsewhere -- with Alexis and Alves.
The 9320 Pod talked about this as being "naive" today where Ahsan raised the question I have -- despite understanding the reasoning for it -- about the concept of not being hosed in transfers as was our reputation since the takeover. I suspect this also has to do with profits -- aka FFP -- but Sam Lee also pointed to this being Pep's philosophy about wanting certain types of players who really want to be here.
Mahrez -- who I think some critics should take not about -- decided he wanted to come here. And there is a lot of competition for places that's for certain. Bernardo also stuck to his word, clearly, as many other clubs would have loved to have him.
The big ? and concern I have is what we are going to do now. Ashan also raised an idea that I was thinking about as well, that Fernandinho was blamed for the 2014 WC Brazil exit and took months to recover in form. Now he's 33, and is being scapegoated a bit for their exit this time as well.
I'm not sure we have a real alternative in the market that fits Jorginho's profile. I am a bit concerned, and Sam Lee suggested WE MIGHT NOT SIGN ANYONE as a CDM this summer and go with Gundogan getting more time as Fernadinho's backup. This will allow Bernardo to play more as an 8 and also Foden to possibly get more time as well.
This is a bit of a shambles still, and whilst I think we will survive, it hurts us against the high press, unless Gundo can prove his value there.
