I blame the French for all that has happened and I fear it will only get worse.

I have been impressed with Shawcross and wondered why no big clubs ever came in for him.

Italy have 3 players at the back who know how to defend against almost anything, Nous/ and game management skills. I thnk the same with Shawcross, even Jonny Evans is a top defender in the right set up. Wash my mouth out.

No way on earth will Pep go for those types of defenders. Bonucci is a whole other story and Pep would probably love him. Juve won't sell though, I doubt. He is also 29, and doubt he speaks English on a team with no real Italian speakers.

Clubs oozing with quality in midfield and in the final third want defenders that enhance their chances of catching defences off balance from possession/quick counter rather than big brutes who are physical, tackle hard and head better than everyone else. Your strength is attack, so you need as many players on the pitch than can contribute. This is why Joe is even at risk over the next few seasons. This is in part due to how how teams comprised of lesser quality talent work on collecting players that can buy into being highly organised/teamwork, possess high work rate (Leicester) and if needs be put so many men behind the ball when facing teams with high caliber attackers. This is why we struggled in part under Pellegrini.

Pace-y forwards/wingers, with a high work rate is also important and is also what you can see us going for now as well rather than your Negredo/Dzeko/Bony/Lukaku types.

Missing on Laporte is indeed a blow for us and I fully expect the fans and media to go mental when we try to spend £60m on Stones. I can see why we may. We are going to overpay no matter what so there's not so much use in whinging unless you like being angry, waiting for Godot and it makes you feel better.

Austria have been the better side, but with finishing like that, they're not likely to score.

I as only pointing out the attention to detail marks decent players over the bigger names, The 3 at the back are a great combo. Teams need this.

I think many parties are to blame in some way or another. Who is most to blame is a complicated question to answer.

I doubt any party is entirely innocent, but the level of blame and guilt does seem to be thrown around as equal in part because the general divide seems be around thinking the other side is incapable of being objective, which I don't entirely blame some for believing, based on historical conflict, but some of these perspectives is also likely dripping with propaganda so it is hard to sift through it all.

I wonder, would there be an investigative body that all of the competing groups would accept to gather evidence and come to conclusions?

I can very well see us going with 3 at the back next season since we seem to have heard so little about signing actual full backs.
