The media seem hellbent on us wanting to buy some sort of playmaker whether it's Modric, Hamsik or Sneijder. What do we, as fans think? I love David Silva to bits and in my eyes he has improved as the season has gone on and is on an upward 'slide'(?). Basically I don't want to see his role in the side diminish in any kind of way. Nor do I want to see new players come in to just sit on the bench as I don't think that's right either. James Milner has had a fantastic attitude all season and before this season he was a decent hard working playmaker with Villa. I am convinced we should give him time. Bringing in new players to bump him down the pecking order would shatter his confidence (even more) and we would surely never see the player who excited us so much against Liverpool at home. Surely we can't go on season to season saying '(insert player name) didn't do well this year even though he played well the year before, let's replace him'

To summarise, I'm not fussed if we don't bring in a playmaker. Give me a box to box midfielder and/or a left back and I'll be excited. What do others think about the role of a potential new playmaker?

Does anyone know anything about a 35M euro bid from City for De Rossi? It's been reported by goal.com in its italian version but given the source I am a bit skeptical about the truth of it.

AS Roma couldn't make any bid until new USA chairman Di Benedetto wouldn't be officially elected. May be at the beginning of July, and it's really a shame for all Giallorossi fans!

As long as they make the deals ready for that day, waiting till then for the deals to be completed is not a big deal. The biggest problem is to avoid someone else snapping the transfer targets from under their noses while they wait, but I think there's someone with the power to sign contracts now, as they signed the Luis Enrique one.

Love De Rossi but we don't need him and he's not worth 35mil Euro. It's got to be bollox.

I think we need an upgrade on Barry but I want someone in the playmaker mould - Modric, Fabregas, Nasri, Sneijder, Pastore, Ozil, Hamsik - I don't think we need a 'win it, give it' type player which is what De Rossi is.

He's not worth 35M probably but if someone wanted him they would need a silly offer to convince the new American board to sell, otherwise they'd start their adventure in Rome with the wrong foot alienating the fans by selling one of their favourites (even if he's been criticised a lot this season); as for the kind of player he is, I guess he's not in the playmaker mould you mention if those are the players you go by, but he's hardly a "win it, give it" player either; he just plays that way in Roma because he plays alongside Pizarro who is the real playmaker of the team, but De Rossi has good playmaking abilities of his own if he's given the freedom to use it and get forward he can be very useful, also as a goalscoring threat on set pieces, long shots and getting into space to finish a team move. He's been limited in that by the duties Roma's coaches have given him in the last couple of seasons though.

Wasn't being critical of him mate, I think he's a fantastic player. I did say "Love De Rossi".

Perhaps 'win it, give it' does him a disservice but there is no doubt that he is more water carrier than playmaker.

I know you weren't criticizing him ;) I gave my view on how I see him as a player, and I do agree that he's more a water carrier than a playmaker; I think, though, that he has the quality to be a good playmaker (maybe not in the Silva, Nasri, etc. mould) if he were given the freedom to do so.I see him more as a deep lying playmaker, like Pirlo but better at winning the ball back, than the ones you mentioned who like to operate further up the pitch.

City ready to offer Tevez route back to Argentina

Manchester City are ready to offer Carlos Tevez an escape route back to Argentina.

Sunday Mirror Sport understands that the Blues are prepared to promise their talismanic captain a free transfer that would enable him to return to his homeland – if he commits himself to the club for the next two years.

Under the terms of the “gentleman’s agreement” Tevez would go back to his roots at the age of 29 in 2013. He has constantly complained about being homesick and his desire to return to his boyhood heroes Boca Juniors.

And City manager Roberto Mancini is ready to allow him to pursue his dream end to his career if he helps them challenge for the Premier League title and Champions League over the next two seasons.

Tevez has been living alone in Manchester after his wife Vanesa moved back to Buenos Aires with daughters Forencia and Katia.

And although the couple are attempting a reconciliation, Vanesa is reluctant to live in England.

Inter Milan are monitoring Tevez’s situation and believe the appointment of former Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa as their new boss can persuade the striker to move to Italy.

But City have told his advisors that any club looking to prise him away from Eastlands will have to pay £50million – too much for Inter – and are adamant that their captain will not be allowed to leave on the cheap.

Now they are hoping a compromise can be reached.

Too bad that Bielsa snubbed them then ;)

seriously though, I think this is a good chance for Carlos to go back to Argentina; no club there would have been able to afford him otherwise, if not at 35\36 years old, this way instead he goes there on a free at 29, still with some good years to play. It's a loss of a lot of money for the club because even in two years time he could be worth over 30 million, but if he brings us to the title in the meantime, it will be a loss repayed by that and the money it brings.

The Mirror is today claiming that Barcelona are going to offer David Villa to us and Chelsea for £40m. As far as rumours go this is the most ridiculous I have heard because Villa is worth so much more. Barca are no way that desperate to get Sanchez in that they would let Villa go for that amount. I hate these rumours myself but you can't help but skip a heartbeat when you hear David Villa and Man City in the same sentence!

Villa to us would be a dream, if only to really mess with Shearers pea brained head!

I was reading an article the other day which said basically that Barça would do well to sell Villa now that he still has a high market value, because then they can spend the £45m they have plus the Villa cash on their three big targets Fabregas, Giuseppe Rossi and Sanchez. I guess in a way it might make sense, Villa is 29, and he almost plays as a winger for Barça so why not throw a real winger there, strengthen the midfield with Fabregas and have a supersub like Rossi on the bench?

Now, what the value of Villa would be I don't know but £40m doesn't seem so low of a price tag...

He turns 30 soon - 40m? - Barca would be taking the piss - tell them to do one. Besides Villa would hate it in England - he likes the Mediterranean lifestyle far too much

Spot on David. £40m for a guy about to turn 30 who really doesnt want to play for City if we are being honest? Err, no thanks and it wont happen.

However its standard Barca transfer policy on display again this summer. When they are tryin to sign a player eg Sanchez, Fabregas etc, they plead absolute poverty and claim "we can only afford £25m etc etc," and the classic "the price isnt fair" - and yet, if anyone is in the market for one of their players, eg Ya Ya, Bojan, Villa etc, the price is absolutely sky high and they want everything bar the buying club's manager's first born child.

Barca are a great football team but in transfer negotiations they are up their with AC Milan for taking the absolute piss.

We fund Barca to buy one of our priority targets, how fucked up is that?

Why was it again that Villa stayed in Spain?
