Some good observations and probably says that we shouldn't play so many attacking players in one game, at least without giving them game time together.

Would've been a better bet than Sterling in that role tonight but then DeBruyne or Bernardo would've been better bets again.

Ginger Kev to come back aswell , we have so many options ! Absolutely no point going full out tonight and risking injuries .Bournemouth Saturday then Watford away Tuesday its relentless this time of year and can easily take its toll if not managed correctly . Lovely to have a dead rubber v Hoffenheim , rest players / try some young players etc all good !

I’m about to land into Toronto but can’t say I’m sorry I didn’t see the match - match thread was good enough for me though although the slagging off amongst you was not necessary .

I thought the set up was wrong to be honest. Sterling looked like he wa stuck between being a striker and a midfielder and did neither well. There full backs marked sane and mahrez out the game and there younger, stronger midfield bosses ours which was a man light in reality.

Had we had any of Gundogan, kdb or Bernardo we’d have kept the ball more, let in less attacks and been able to drag them about a bit freeing up the front 3 to wriggle free occasionally. We didn’t have the available and for my money should have started Delph in there. That said tricky away tie and were qualified, more than likely top of the group. If this is a bad day I’ll accept it.
Tracking back is overrated.

Just watched now.

Lyon really get up for playing against us, eh? They do have some quality and pace that they used against us on the counter in both games. Ndomble, another potential future City player, was impressive again, I must say.

Didn't read the match thread where I'm sensing anger at the team's performance, but the atmosphere sounded wild, and it clearly motivated their players and perhaps caused us some problems.

Not going to say we were great, but we were missing some key players and with some interesting changes to the squad from Pep I thought the team fought hard each time going down. Was really impressive how well we seem to do from set pieces scoring 2 goals from headers!

This is another reason why we are "so amazing" to quote our esteemed manager as it's hard to find an area of real weakness.

Laporte was excellent and the clear MOTM. I thought Stones was good as well, and Sergio showed up when we needed him.

Curious what that banter was between Delph and Zinchenko at the end was about.

However, we need to perform better and there are some potentially ominous signs with how tough these fixtures against Lyon have been, even if the saying is CL away against good opposition is not the same as anything else. Another perspective is these are good experiences to prepare us for the later stages.

I know I'm going to get stick for this but as much as missing one of KDB/Bernardo/Gundo last night we really missed Mendy.

In games we dominate we can get away with our shape at the back being distorted but in games like last night where the oppo don't allow us settle, that inbalance at the back fucks us.

Still, good to be tested for a change, keeps them on their toes.

Any stick you get for regretting the absence of Mendy in the team is as damaging as the wispy fronds of angel hair. We do need another left back as well though.

Keep your panties on and get a grip ffs.

No one is saying that we do not play the best football out there. For me, I never saw a team playing better than us, even Pep's Barcelona, I am just pointing out that it starts to look that we have an UCL complex that is growing bigger and bigger.

Look, our club won everything that had to be won locally and for over 8 years now is by far the best team in the country and in the land. We've become solid in every department, grew as a marketing product and reached a level that we could only dream 11-12 years ago.

BUT

In order to reach the next level is to win an european trophy, no matter (for me) which one is it. That is why Pep was brought here, to build a dinasty that ultimately will win the Champions Cup. I am not saying he is the problem, we failed to impress with Mancini and Pellers also, I am saying that it looks like, slowly, we are building an complex in this competition
Lyon is a good team, no doubt, but PSG won 5-0, PSG an inferiour team to us. Lyon outplayed us in two consecutive games, that is the big issue here. We knew what they were about and we were super lucky to finish the way we did last night.

Look, in the league you can lose a game but still win the League, but here are 13 games and losing even once could prove to be more than crucial. We are lacking something, it is either concentration, either is the indivual value.
I hope it is the first one because you can work on that.

I think we should've hung on to Angelino, I'm not suggesting him as a regular but as a backup to the system. Delph and Zinchenko are good at what they do but our shape being compromised is what hurts us.

I'm with SSB on this in regards Mendy, too expensive a risk for such an injury prone player.
