Was Stones playing? :D

Yes he was , had a good game in midfield tonight.

Really? He was supposed to be partnering AKanji tonight in a back 4. If you saw him in midfield he was out of position. Nobody was in that midfield in the first half. We were weak until Kovacic put his big boy pants on and decided to do something positive

He did sit in the back 4 when defending, when we had the ball he slotted into the middle to help kova as pep relied on gundo and Kevin to be the forward play. Alas, gundo was anonymous and Kevin was shite. Stones was magnificent though, always looking for the ball, always looking to recycle it. The pockets of space he was finding himself in was all due to his brain. He was finding those gaps like David Silva, shame his feet aren't as good as he was.

Facetious Silva comment aside, he was superb. Made me hanker for the treble season when stones would run the midfield. Still the most underrated move of pep's tenure, finding this new midfield general in stones.

Some mind blowing hyperbole being used in that match commentary. I prefer to think that when we had the ball everyone moved up 30 yds apart from Akanji. Stones didn't 'find' space, he walked into an area vacated by Brugge as they defended. Until Kova started pushing along with Savinho and playing more directly, our midfield was ineffective. Kova, Sav, Gvardiol turned that game and Silva came inside to assist. Gundo, KDB, Haaland, Foden Nunes, Akanji all bang average

When we had the ball, we would move up yes. But everybody was static. Fuck all movement between the lines. Just standing around like mongs doing nothing. It was awful. Only Stones, Josko and Kova offered anything. Sav did change the dynamic though, fair play to him.

There is no way on earth we are going to beat BM or RM with the team that PeP put out last night - I just cannot see it.

Putting Foden on the wing as an anal decision and we all knew it even before kick off and the less said about Nunes at RB the better.
Pep only knows one way to play football , he is too fuckign arrogant and too fucking stubborn to make changes unless we are looking into the abyss, like we were last night, and even then hes normally late with any subs - last night was a get out of jail result.

Will pep learn from this game ? Has he learnt anything this season ? The answer is a no from me..hes learnt fuckall......... we will never beat RM in a million years with that 1st half team he put out last night.

Dummy back in, I watched the highlights and thought we played well. We’ve had numerous games like that where teams sit and park the bus and we have to break them down. Hoping it’ll be a bit different when Omar is allowed to play against those teams.

We’re still very soft in the middle - they were able to break through our midfield a few times very easily. We need bodies in there - not sure if we end up with Douglas Luiz on loan, we’ll see. Long term I wonder what it would take to get Rogers back from Villa, he’d add some legs and quality to our midfield.

A decent win, Brugge have been good this season in this comp.

We should have other options available, including Oscar Bobb, hopefully a couple of "proper" defenders and the 3 new signings to choose from. So hopefully NOT the team from that 1st half...

That was a lovely pass. Just needed to get the job done last night which we did. Marmoush and Khusanov now available for the knock outs. Bobb to come back. I reckon Real Madrid or Bayern will be as pissed off with the draw as us.
Kova fantastic last night btw and how good is Savinho

2 games in a few days? I think we all know how that ends. Hopefully not as a fit Stones is s must for the next chump league games.
Only saw the goals this morning and read the end of this match thread. Nothing that we didn't already know, Pep is one stubborn arrogant cnut, the starting 11 and set-up was poor. Savinho scares the shit out of teams who sit back and caused them to come out of their shape. Ultimately, we made it through. We will need to be much better next round but we should have better options. The Madridista's won't be shitting temselves, but they won't be too confident either (despite that first half midfield)
