Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Basically Ashton, reporting of the case has to be on the 'facts' that are said in court and not personal opinion be it mine or anyone elses. You can say what you want (within reason) I believe but I thought it prudent to put an arse covering sentence especially considering the supposed conspiracy against all things Man City at the mo ;)

DAY 11 cont.
Mandaric's barrister describes Redknapp & Mandaric as an "odd couple". "Very different men.....with deep bond between them"

Mandaric's barrister finishes by saying his client is "not guilty and not a tax cheat....evidence against him is hopelessly weak"

Mandaric's barrister tells jury that "You have it in your power to put things right".

<20min break then its Redknapps team's turn>

Redknapp's barrister begins his closing speech by apologising to jury in advance for any "indignation" he might show during it.

Rosie47, Monaco (06/02/2012 at 13:46) I thought Webb the Red was going to get his hat-trick yesterday. When was the last time a side had two penalties in successive games in the prem?

DAY 11 cont.
Redknapp's barrister says that 'the prosecution's case doesn't make sense. It's self evident that this only makes sense if Mr Redknapp is telling the truth'.

Redknapp's barrister tells jury that technically they can find Mandaric guilty and Redknapp innocent, but that would be "unlikely".

He raises questions about the leaks from police inquiry into Redknapp and Mandaric during the investigation and says Sun photographers tipped off about Redknapp's initial arrest + News of World had detail of much of police investigation.

R's barrister calls News of World "despicable". "Pursuit of front page overrides any sense of respect + decency for individuals involved"

Redknapp's defence has concluded. Judge sends jury home as he says temperature in room is too high due to failed air-conditioning

Judge will sum up Redknapp/Mandaric case at 10am tomorrow and jury should retire to consider verdicts before lunch

Chinners, can you add a Poll.

In your view, is 'Arry (the dirty guilty Tax Dodging Del Boy of all Rogue Traders (I think)):

Guilty

Not Guilty

Guilty but gets away with it for being a Cheeky Chappie

I know which one I'd be voting.

It does seem bizarre that the prosecution made no attempt to show Harry up to being a liar by exposing his business acumen and mobile phone skills. He said he was useless at both when clearly he isn't.

But it isn't about if he can use a mobile, it was that he claimed he couldn't text so would be harder to prove if no one has had a text off 'Arry - I don't buy the 'I've got so much money why would I defraud the taxman' or the 'I've paid loads of tax why would I not bother paying this tax' - doesn't seem much of a defence to me, not like 'none of it is true'

DAY 12 cont.
Judge tells jury they may have sympathy with defendants' long wait for this trial, but verdicts must be decided on evidence not sympathy.

Judge hands jury document titled 'Steps to Verdict'.

Jury asked to follow it. For example, can only find guilty if believe tax was avoided.

Judge tells jury there's a scenario where they can find Harry Redknapp not guilty and Milan Mandaric guilty.

They must not find Redknapp guilty and Mandaric not guilty.

Judge says both Redknapp and Mandaric are of 'good character' and tells jury that might mean more likely they should believe their evidence.

Judge: One of first questions you'll need to ask yourselves is - what was the Monaco payment for?

Completely agree.

But if the thief is a loveable old wheeler dealer bastard who's been sowing the seeds of his good character across the media and into the national consciousness since he caught a sniff that he might be in trouble, it's a different story.

Everyone would kick a hoodie down the street to the stocks and pelt him with eggs. But you couldn't do that to Arthur Daley, it's just not right, and he loves his old dog, you know.
