Not saying he wasn't good but he wasn't as good as people made out, nor was he as bad as the same people were making out a couple of months earlier. He put in a few decent displays but that's all they were, it was just that he was the only thing we had resembling a defensive midfielder. Still think we would have been better off with Barry in that position.

My main gripe with him though is he NEVER seems to pass the ball forwards. Lovely bloke, top pro but would like to see us replace him with an English/ homegrown player.

It seems that defensive role is what the club have in mind for him though, I read a quote from him a while back in which he said Vieira has urged him to model his game on Busquets.

I can imagine he could become better in the future, but Garcia is currently much tougher to beat on the ground or in the air than Huws.

Moving Barry on was the biggest single reason for our change of style of play. Pace in the side and less going sideways slowly

Garcia is the king of passing the ball sideways slowly. Barry had a far greater range of passing.
Although our best football was played with neither in the side.

Garcia is capable of the odd MotM performance, but he got credit for not being shite anymore and quite reliable as a holding midfielder. I don't put too much stock in his range of passing but I wouldn't judge him on it either, when he has played it's usually with Fred and Yaya ahead of him, so I am sure he was instructed to keep it simple, get it to them and let them take it from there.
