Every club needs that statement signing when they announce themselves as an elite club.

Manchester City are still waiting. Robinho was first for the Citizens – similar to PSG’s €42 million move for Javier Pastore - but after that the initial move, other deals have been big: Sergio Agüero, Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sané and Bernardo Silva to name a few, but only big in terms of fees spent, rather than personnel.

Barcelona and Real Madrid were already there, yet they can still attract Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and James Rodriguez. The best, most sought-after players, moving to the best clubs. PSG and City must contend with picking off the outsiders: Ángel Di Maria, Kyle Walker, Julian Draxler etc. Not exactly eating crumbs that fall from the table, but more making do with the set menu and house wine, rather than the Chateaubriand and a vintage red.

I can understand Frank going for Chelsea given his background, but as we know now, retaining the title is tough and things don't seem quite right there with Conte's comments in the last few days.
