(for obvious reasons) In tv games, live & recorded, I've always thought he looked as if he could do with a yard more pace (not that he's slow, not at all) but looking at some recent Youtube stuff since wthe deal became a reality, sometimes he looks a fair bit quicker on there, than he has done when I've seen him live. Whether it's the youtube effect I don't know but it's certainly got me thinking.

Looks like we are going to find out for ourselves though doesn't it ;)

There was a poster from Bosnia further up the thread saying that his pace was just fine.. and not an issue.

He's definitely not slow but it's certainly looked an issue sometimes when I've seen him lose out in a 50/50 that you would expect to see Ade or Tevez for instance run away with the ball, but perhaps he was protecting a niggle, off balance or just plain couldn't be arsed. My biggest worry about him is that he's looked a bit disinterested on more than one occasion when I've watched him so perhaps the two things are linked. He needs to go balls out for City & get himself a goal early in his career.

Certainly on some Youtube stuff I've seen he sometimes looks to have the pace to take on & run away from defenders though.

Maybe thats it, as you say doesn't look slow on some of the youtube stuff.

Anyway aside from the pace thing what he certainly is, is dangerous... with head and both feet. So in that sense he will have to be watched by defenders to try and stop him getting shots off.. another thing for oppositions to worry about if Carlos, Mario and Silva were not enough. You can see where the final piece in the jigsaw phrase comes from, with the ability to take the ball down and win long balls he is going to be a a bit of a dream come true for Tevez and Silva.
I can already see some teams opting for brown shorts v City later in the season.

As well as the obvious plan B type football, I've always looked at the idea of an aerial centre forward at City with reference to Kendall's Everton team, when they'd be passing & passing the ball around a packed penalty area unable to break through, then Sheedy etc would just knock a little diagonal pass onto the head of Graeme Sharp, 1-0 & off they went. Coincidentally, we must have had 50 opportunities to do that v Everton recently but nobody to pass to.

Just got an email from a mate in Bosnia- it's apparently a done deal between the clubs since a couple of hours ago. Just paperwork between us, FA and possibly the Home Office to go now.

We've played that formation in pretty much every game so I would think we'd just rotate the players & mix & match, like we've been doing already but with more Dzeko & less Jo?

Dzeko can play in front of the three but he sometimes plays left side in internationals so he could swap around & change positions like Balotelli has been doing. I imagine Yaya will still play plenty of games in his current position as he's causing a lot of problems, so he will need to be included in the front 4 calculations.

One thing I've noticed is that Silva has been a bit more disciplined in recent games & seems to have stayed wide just a little bit more both attacking & defensively. He's been working hard tracking back, which gives us the option of sometimes switching to 4-4-2 if we feel the need. I don't like 4-4-2 though so hopefully we'll stay as we are.

You just have to browse back my posts and You'll find out how deep are the sharing of our thoughts...
We may just get an additional gift in David Luiz, otherwise I only can see some serious rotation for the RB spot and AJ to ratate with the spotted 3 for the roaming playmaking roles.

I think....

Hart
Boateng--Kompany--Lescott--Kolarov
Yaya--de Jong--Barry
Tevez--Dzeko--Silva

...is much more likely.

absolutely right in the short time.
I do strongly believe that next season most of the games will see City starting
2 HM out of NdJ, YT,GB, JM, MJ
3 roaming playmakers, mainly DS - CT - MB, having AJ on a frequent rotation policy for these 3 shirts. possibly even MJ might partecipate to the ballot for those roles, if he will be quick to evolve to a more fluid attacking midfielder (a sort of Inter milan's Dejan Stankovic), rather than a box to box central midfielder only.
Dzeko when available, with Mario as back up.
That doesnt means that, different formations might not be used depending on the opponents and/the team form.
4-3-3 and 4-4-2 diamond have always been used by Bob very fluidly all along his manager's career, even switching amongst that in the same game. That's why he's always keen to multi-functional players and always try to develop big talents [if I am not mistaken, the second thing he says about AJ, after welcome to the Club, was "he will become our Giggs, even better."]

I think Yaya Toure will continue to be used mostly in an advanced role. I hope I'm right because he's looked hopeless when played deeper; just doesn't work hard enough for me. If we want to play someone else in his current position, I'd rather we dropped him than used him deeper, at least against decent teams. He struggles to play 2 games in a week though so could easily be rested more.

I would imagine us to line up something like this when Dzeko 1st plays in the prem:

..............DeJong............Barry.................

......Tevez............Yaya.............Silva..........

........................Dzeko......................

but with those positions only being loosely adhered to, more when we lose the ball & Tevez often pushing right up like a striker.

Any of those players could be changed for AJ & Balotelli & even positionally so you could get

..............DeJong............Barry.................

......AJ...............Silva..............Balotelli..........

........................Dzeko......................

or
..............DeJong............Barry.................

......AJ...............Tevez..............Dzeko..........

.......................Balotelli.......................

Almost every possible line up has it's possibilities & I expect most to get tried out even during the same game. I really hope we don't rely on Yaya to do a holding job against a decent team though. Next season maybe but not yet.

Ok, at least that makes it a bit more tangible to see what you are believing. I dont disagree with that by the way, but would qualify it a bit. Basically because this is not Serie A and while Mancini may get 3 roaming playmakers and a striker out for some games eventually, i have doubts that he will be able to that for very many in the Prem until the team really know each other. The simple reason for that being the defensive quality of the likes of Yaya as Ted pointed out and the way that decent prem teams will counter it. The other aspect that the set up will eventually rely on is the quality of the FBs to be able to maintain a high position and help out the holding players. It is a lot to learn and i would only expect to see a glimpse of it this season give the right opposition.
By next year though we may well be able to give Barca a run for their money if all the players fit in and shape up well.

Great and very positive article about Dzeko in the Telegraph in case anyone hasn't seen it. Also a video of a stunning piece of play finally finished off in stunning style by the Bosnian.

He looks the business.

Good stuff. Nice to read an article on football without an agenda. What a pity all football writing can't be like that.

Very good article that, and the goal in the video shows just how refined his feet are, even if he's a big guy.

No doubt cameras will be all for him tonight at the Emirates, if the medical is in London he will surely attend the match at the stasium with someone from City.

EDIT: this video shows how he's not only a poacher (which he is, btw) but he also has a mean shot from a distance, 3 out of five goals are done that way, and a really educated right foot, the lob on the keeper was very stylish and so was the far post goal with a curling shot.

He definitely knows where the finesse button is. Two or three real precise curlers into the top right.

We don't have a striker that can do that at present.
