Balotelli is not any type of football player

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

There's something about this video that concerns me. We already know he has some difficult psychological issues. I just wonder what his mental age is.

Mancini intimated when he signed him that he'd be the father figure to sort him out. That's clearly not how it's unfolded.

Put it this way - the lad's done fuck all to endear himself to me (quite the opposite) but I can't help but worry about how, or where, he's going to end up.

Have to agree with the consensus.
Balotelli may be a genius but he's no good to us sitting in the dressing room.

Funny that but I know what you mean. At training the other day there were 3 lads stuck up a tree wtaching and everytime Mario touched the ball they cheered/shouted in moronic fashion and no matter how much I wished it they didn't fall out.
They were 15 or 16 I would guess but sounded like 11 year old girls.I just find it so disappointing that a player like him who has done what he has ( very little) gets cult status from some more because of his outrageous attitude rather than anything else.

Different mindsets as you get older. Kids cheer the tricks whereas when I'm at the game I get more of a buzz of Kompany or DeJong putting in a perfectly timed challenge. Probably wouldn't even of noticed when I was 12

I knjow what you mean in terms of noticing things when you grow up a bit, that you didn't appreciate whilst younger. Most of the stuff you take notice of as a kid is attacking play, personally speaking anyway. But I actually think if I was younger I'd be all out hate on Balotelli for fucking things up for us. I'm actually surprised by the fact that I'm relatively philosophical about him. That being said, I consider him an absolute maniac. I do see the 'gifted' in him though. Makes me wonder if he's autistic or summat. Aspergers maybe.

A lot of us sit somewhere on these spectrums, mainly on the low end, obviously. I doubt he is anything like the image that is being built up about him by the media frenzied, internet-charged world of today. A bit of a very rich twat, at times, nothing more. As a footballer, not my cup of tea at all. Yet.

Before the match he added "City" to the shirt with a blue marker.

I thought that was funny adding city to the t-shirt, Mario is a maverick, a character and there are too few of them in football today. He needs to start producing on the pitch pretty soon though because it would be a shame if he wasted his talent.

He is a bit of daft cunt, but he is our daft cunt and until such time will always have my support.

Maybe? I think he is far from a genius but could be persuaded otherwise if those who think he a genius could remind me of all the amazing ,staggerring genius type things he has done in the games he has played for us.There must be loads where he has scored match winning goals or set up great chances with great skill but they seem to have slipped my mind for a moment.

As for sitting in the dressing room ,he will have to get used to that a little as he currently seems to be 4th choice striker.(I think maybe he wasn't used at all last night partly because his knee isnt perfect) We have plenty of matches for him to get games in so I hope he will be out to prove himself and play great.

I cant see where any other forward will get in other than to rest one of Aguero or Dzeko last night....both played very well together..could be a fantastic partnership.

Honestly my friend, you know in what esteem I hold your views. I have no idea what you may have seen from Mario to have poisoned your views as they are (and such toxification clearly extends to your offspring also).....but I'd love to hear what you have seen (that we have not seen) which colours your views thus?

If you cannot see the latent talent I am staggered

If you have seen something which convinces you that that talent can never, or likely never, be usefully harnessed then you have not shared it with us.

If you've reached ur conclusion on the basis of what we have all seen....I'm shocked that you have been so hasty and I think you are dead wrong...I don't think that's ur style so you MUST have seen other things not reported.

I am genuinely curious

You are just a Ballo licker......you know you are.

Personally I have seen very little to even want him in the starting lineup ahead of Dzeko,Aguero,Tevez barring injury to one of them.

I've nothing at all against Balotelli but after Dzeko's excellent performance v Swansea, now all the other strikers, including Ade & Bellamy, have at times reached a level of performance Balo is yet to attain. I'm hopeful he will do but so far yet he hasn't. There were flashes of it in the cup final but not a sustained level of excellence.

He's deffo 4th in the list at the mo. One blinding performance would change that though.

I'd be content with one better than average performance.

I really don't 'get' where Ant sees all this genius and brilliance.

No, neither do I. I think DH sums it up pretty well - he shows moments of brilliance but they are few and far between and he has never controlled a game for us and won it single handedly like Tevez has done. Aguero managed to do more in a 30 minute cameo than Balotelli has done in his City career. I just don't get the Balotelli wankfest

I'd be content with a shit performance without the histrionics.

I'm very wary about going in to the season with him as one of three strikers. If Carlos does leave we will need to replace him. We can't rely on Balo for shit and that's my main issue. I don't see the talent that Ant does but that's not my main problem, my problem is that he simply can not be relied upon to perform consistently or behave sensibly, that makes him a liability in my view.

At the price we paid and for the money he's on we should be entitled to include him in our squad safe in the knowledge that we have someone who can contribute over the course of a season and be relied upon when we are short up front. It's a shame but in Balo's case he doesn't tick either of those boxes.

I'd like to see him out and someone else brought in who we can trust.

Lads, I honestly can understand why some people are frustrated with him so far. I agree that we've yet to see a really blinding performance from him. I don't disagree that after Sunday's match he now is very much 4th on the pecking order. BUT I think we certainly will see more than the odd flash of brilliance this season.

I do like him a lot, I think he'll prove a lot of people wrong. I might be wrong but we've taken the gamble on him and I see little value in chucking the baby out with the bathwater having done so. We have a lot to lose by "getting rid" and much to potentially gain by being patient.

Also. Kladze.....I said "latent" and that's the whole point.

I think Kun may bring out the best in him. He will no longer be the 'top dog', and he will have to get used to the role of playing second fiddle.
It just may be that he steps up to the plate, if he has it in him. Certainly, when Kun came on, the whole team got a lift, is it too much to expect that Ballo does the same. It would look very silly to see him falling about all over the place, whilst Kun is doing his magic. Come on Ballo, time to show us what you are really made of.
