Really? I missed that one. Carew will need a neck brace after the amount of nodding he's going to have to do between now & May.

Perfect move for Carew imo, he'll bag a hatful at stoke, he just suits the way they play!

Well he's big, that's half the battle. Cetainly good at getting his head to the ball & scores a few but misses a few too. If he can just nod it on & land heavily on a few people he will have done his job even without scoring though.

Carew rarely seems to take the field nowadays. Quite surprised he passed the medical tbh.

Dani Alves' negotiations with Barca seem to have reach another deadlock after a meeting this week. He is willing to forego a little of the extra dosh he could make in the Premier, but wants Barca to make concessions too. They just keep offering silly media rights things rather than hard cash.

If it's not sorted by the summer it's England for him. But then I'm sure it will be.

So David Luiz seems set to go to Chelsea, I really hope we've done everything we can to get this guy and if he was dead set on going to Chelsea I hope we atleast put in what they bid + 5m just to drive the price up!

i think it's very likely - pep and cruyff have both said he can go, and the barca newspaper reported the story that we were in for him, and he was very receptive, as much as a month or two ago.

one of my best friends is a die hard barca supporter, and was their US fan correspondant a while back - he said that alves will be gone in the summer because they will refuse to upset their wage structure to match our offer - very similar to what happened with yaya.

would be an absolutely immense signing - would be a great fit in our system, and his work rate is second to none.

BBC running a story that Atletico Madrid have rejected a £52 million bid from Chelsea for Sergio Aguero and Diego Godin. If this is true it suggests a number of points. First, Ancelotti said their only interest this window was in David Luiz. He doesn't strike me as a liar and I just wonder how much control he has over transfers. Second, Godin is a classy Uruguayan international centre back. I can't believe Chelsea would want both Luiz and Godin. This suggests that Chelsea were in principle prepared to walk away from a Luiz deal. Maybe it's back on now. Finally reports of Abramovic losing interest in Chelsea are premature.

Godin had a decent WC, but at the moment I´m sure he´s still injured and hasn´t had the most auspicious start to his Atleti career fro what I´ve seen of him - rather have Dominguez - he´s been outstanding last 2 seasons

I'd rather have Luiz than either of them but it looks like City aren't interested. The Guardian are claiming that the deal with Chelsea has broken down because Benfica thought they had an agreement on the 25 million up front and Chelsea now want to pay in instalments. Benfica played Luiz tonight. Unless Chelsea back down this could be over. Interesting to see whether they come in for Cahill now or even Lescott.

I'm not saying we'd sell him just that Chelsea might ask the question! If we got Luiz instead I'd sell him in an instant but that's not going to happen. There's no sign of us making a move for another centre back either so I'd imagine we'd say no. Lescott seems to be first reserve centre back at the moment ahead of Boateng or Boyata.

I wouldn't be amazed if Chelsea finally get Luiz but I'm just not sure whether Benfica aren't perfectly happy to wait until the summer thinking they'll get a better price once Luiz is a Brazilian team regular. We'll find out very soon.

I think they see three years into the future and think "Liverpool, fuck that", so getting a couple in now to avoid an overhaul is a very good idea.

For me it Torres is prepared to move and MCFC could get him I would, I love Carlo but feel he is in his last season with us, If Chelsea get Torres, we lose Tevez, that is a double whammy we lose 20/30 goals and they get 25/goals and a huge boost.

So Darren Bent for £24m and Torres for £35m. Hmmmm.....

Darren Bent has scored more goals than anyone except Drogba over the last three seasons.

I'd rather have Torres, but that is his value. Don't forget, Villa left Valencia for less...
