Remembering that L'Pool only lost 2 games all last season, getting only a two thirds points return is not good enough to win us the League.
We must start to pressurise the others from the start.

Yes, but with the win already in the bag that gives us 13/18.

Still not good enough really, but it's a start.

The next two games are seriously winnable & provided we don't make a cock up of the Palace game, that would leave us on a roll facing an Arsenal side who's top player v City in recent years is playing for us & then a Utd side who's top player in the last Derby is playing for us. Got to be worth a least a bit of unbridled optimism surely?

I would expect us to take the next two games on pure quality. The filth took 58/60 points against teams who finished 11th-20th last season, we took 40/60. This should be bread and butter games for points, goal difference and confidence to springboard us to take points off the top clubs. So yes, I expect us to be on 9 points after 3 games. The filth are vulnerable, but then again so are we...so banking on points there is just foolish and Arsenal are ALWAYS a handful, but we can take encouragement from the 3-0 win we got last year that we could play our style, out play them on balance and win.

10 years ago, losing to Stoke at half time. The crowd came alive, cheered and chanted, got behingd the team. The whole energy of Maine Rd changed. The team were lifted. It was the moment when Joe Royle noted the "penny had dropped" and the season changed.
The Kop was worth a goal to L'Pool in the 60s. That is a weapon they seem to have discarded.
Summerbee noted that players "visibly wilted" when they had to play along the Kippax touchline.
In the piece by Henry Winter (posted by Ant), Stephen Ireland makes it clear that the City fans at Ewood Park fed the team with energy, on Sunday.

Our fans' mentality IS VERY IMPORTANT, It is crucial that we dump the previous years' emotional baggage and create a new positive vehicle on which to ride to future success.
Can we win the next 5 games?...YOU FUCKING BET WE CAN!!!!!

Top post!

In all honesty, for the 1st time in many many years, I can look at the rag's squad and say...Yep! they have a few top players, a couple of their superstars are not what they used to be and the rest, I don't think are good enough for our squad. There is nothing at the swamp to fear, other than their reputation...we can make that look very fragile indeed.
I think it is a matter of attitude...they are there to be taken.

We have our retro 60s shirts...now we need some of our old retro 60s confidence. NO FEAR BUT FEAR ITSELF.

No, I'm not banking on the points because we're a new side & you never know what can happen but I don't make us big underdogs for those games like we have been for the last 20 odd years. We can win 'em. If we don't, we just dust ourselves off & go after them again. Let's see how they go when their players are knackered from Europe like ours were last season.
