Dunne to Villa

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Be interesting to see if Oneil, one of the leading exponents of the set piece, can find a way of making Dunne a viable option at corners, either by delivery of the ball or getting RD to make particular runs etc. If not then they've signed the wrong bloke as they won half their games due to that other big lummox scoring headers & have missed him badly.

Love Ned and he IS the future - but your definition of experienced and mine are light years apart - sme rumours that Dunnie has basically tried to take City to the cleaners over loyalty comp - would be disappointing if so

It's already closed mate. For a good hour and a half now.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Probably is Dunne then. Mind you; have we sold Benjani? If not it could be another behind the scenes Benjani related fiasco.

just try and clear the ball would be my instructions :D

Just kidding, I am pretty sad at this news although it sort of feels inevitable. I guess this is part of being one of the new rich, you have to get used to popular players leaving the club if better players are coming in, I said all along that he would want a move as he is too good for the subs bench and we should not stand in his way - we do have better players now whatever your feelings on dunne, toure, lescott and Neddy are more or round footballers and thats what our game requires these days - good luck richard, its been an honour

The deal will push through in time, maybe tomorrow. Hat off to the chap for his loyal service over the years, especially through the hard times. Key player of our defensive set up and a rock. Sad to see him go but he his past his best, doesn't have the pace he did and sadly last year a bit of a liability. Would have rather kept him as a squad player, but think we have cover anyway.

Best of luck Ten Ton Dunnex

One of the problems about moving onward and upward is that loved ones can be left behind. Don't blame him re the money, it's probably his last chance for a big pay day. Also I can see him thinking "Well, if you want me out it'll cost you"
"You sir, will either be hung as a traitor or die of the pox"
"That sir, depends on whether I embrace your principles or your mistress"

Au revoir Mr D. Helped keep us in the Premiership at times, at other, less frequent times, calamitous. Unfortunately the most I've heard mentioned is the latter. If we're going to progress there is no time for sentiment. I don't buy into this 'commitment' thing, especially when other clubs very seldom came knocking, however the final "pay-off" does leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

Good luck.

Seems that this is at least part of the reason for the hold-up. They have dispensation for the extension so it should still go through.

For what it's worth (if this is true), I think he's a cheeky cunt. He's been picking up tens of thousands of pounds per week for the last 9 years. And is off to earn (if the reports are to be believed) somewhere in the region of 75k a week.

I was firmly of the opinion that he deserved a testimonial but, the purpose of such a game would be for us, the fans, to show our appreciation and for him (I would have sincerely hoped) to raise some money for a good cause.

Unless the money he's been trying to extract from the club is donated in the above manner, then he's a mercenary bastard....I wasn't sad to see him go from a playing perspective but this has really disappointed me as I always had him down as one of the good guys.

Dunne had passed a medical and settled personal terms with Villa after the clubs agreed a fee before the weekend. But the Ireland defender wanted compensation for giving up a testimonial at City next summer.

He did not ask to leave City and still had three years left on his £55,000-a-week contract. It is believed the initial offer made by City fell well short of what Dunne felt was a reasonable figure.

A source close to the player said: ‘Richard believes the initial offer he received from Manchester City was not befitting someone who had given nine years’ service.’
