presumably some of these have only played them once, so also lose the potential of more points (lose a game).

How the fuck do you work that out?

I would assume that most teams have played Portsmouth at least once due to us being over half way through the season

So it would only be a three point gain to anyone who has not played them a second time yet

Providing spurs and villa had only played them once...worst case we would drop to 6th on better GD than Villa with spurs in 5th 2 points ahead...we would still have the game in hand...Birmingham currently in 8th would have no bearing whatsoever

You're right it would be 6th but the bottom line is we would then be 6 points behind Liverpool because they will not get any points deducted as they lost to Pompey. And we would be 5 points behind Arsenal who would fall down to 4th.

At the top the teams would lose:

Chelsea - 3 pts
Man U***d - 6 pts
Arsenal - 6 pts
Liverpool - 0 pts
Man City - 6 pts
Spurs - 3 pts
Villa - 3 pts

So the table would look like this:

1. Chelsea 55 pts
2. Man U***d 50 pts
3. Liverpool 44 pts
4. Arsenal 43 pts
5. Spurs 40 pts
6. Man City 38 pts
7. Villa 38 pts

Thinking about it some more... there is no way this will happen because look who would drop 5 points behind Chelsea. :)

Can you imagine the Nuclear Fallout from Baconface's explosion if this was to happen? And Arsenal would be hit relatively badly as well dropping from 3rd to 4th....

We are not talking about dropping points mate. We are talking about anyone yet to play portsmouth being awarded a 3 point win

I think what should happen is all previous results should stick and future results against them should be counted as wins at 3-0 *simples* however nobody knows the rules on here obviously as this has never happened in the premier league before.

But here is the official rule..

Here's the rule if anyone's interested:
"If any Club ceases during the Season to be a member of the League, the record of the League
Matches in which it has participated that Season shall be expunged from the table and the
number of Clubs to be relegated at the end of that Season shall be reduced so as to maintain
at 20 (or, if less, as near thereto as may be) the number of Clubs in membership of the League
at the beginning of the next Season."

Ok that means we WOULD get deducted 6 points then? As would United and Arsenal?

Ok that means we WOULD get deducted 6 points then? As would U***d and Arsenal?

See the fuckers not clear if it affects our points or just portsmouths but I guess ours as they would no longer be in the league no?

United lost to Portsmouth so in reality they would only lose 3 points for the win they got against them...not sure what the Arsenal results were

taking into account the games lost by Villa Spurs and Chelsea as a result, the table would effectively look like this:
.........................P....GD...PTS
1. Chelsea............26...39....55
2. Man U***d.........25...33....50
3. Liverpool.........26...19.....44
4. Arsenal...........25....24....43
5. Spurs.............26....19....40
6. Man City.........24....12... 38
7. Villa..............25....11... 38
