I voted for Vinny but there were so many MOTM candidates including the manager for engineering it.

Agreed. Milner worked incredibly hard, as hard as any player in the City team and even when he is not in top form, especially going forward, he never hides. (Does anyone want Stephen Ireland back, btw?)

It is very hard to pick one playerfor MotM. Young Dedryck does look a super young defender though. I particularly enjoyed his shoulder charge on the Ivorian diving machine inside our penalty area. The commentator on Japanese telly was shouting for a penalty. Penalty, my fucking arse.

On a different day with a ref who actually saw it the pen might just have been given. He needs to be a little less blatant when he does that kind of thing.

Yes. Although superjaw did do rather well I thought through my stream.

Has Herr Blatter outlawed shoulder-charges as well now...? You never know with him. Had a penalty been given for that, I'd be waiting behind the conifers in mr. marriner's garden right now with a machete instead of writing this.

If you watched the Newcastle v Stoke game today you'd have seen a penalty awarded to Newcastle for virtually the same challenge by Huth on Carroll.
Some refs will give them, some won't ..... but Dedryck shouldn't be running that risk inside the box.

I've never seen a poll running so close, there's usually one outstanding player but both de Jong and Kompany were out of this world. What's so impressive about both of them doing so well is that we've witnessed their huge improvements since they came here. Vince was a very good prospect when he first arrived but had lapses in concentration and some dodgy moments- he's eradicated all of that now and has been outstanding since January or so. When you think about the top centre halves in the game, very few have all the attributes nailed down. One might be a great tackler but poor in the air, another might be fantastic in the air but can't pass the ball. Kompany has pretty much everything- he's quick, he's a fantastic tackler, he's good in the air, one of the best footballing defenders I've seen, and at 23, can only improve from here. Frightening.

Nigel was always an excellent tackler but that's kind of where the contribution ended. I remember loving his attitude but always worrying he'd either get himself sent off or concede a free kick/penalty. The other problem was his distribution and how unimaginative it was, or at times, he'd even win the ball, and give it straight back. What we're seeing now is probably the best defensive midfielder in Europe. Every tackle is inch perfect, every chasing run is spot on, every pass is precise. He just gives us this solidity that makes everyone's life easier.

It's not just those two though- everyone was great yesterday. Even Milner, despite things not working out for him in an attacking sense, put in a top shift and was relentless in trying to win the ball, push forward, track back.

Blue Since 76 wrote:milner didn't have his best game, especially with the ball, but i wouldn't have taken him off due to the amount of work he was getting through. It wasn't a robinho type bad game, where he just sat on the line pretending the game wasn't happening, he was up and down the line, stopping ivanovich getting 2 on 1 on zab. As a result, the ball didn't get played out that way. It also didn't get played that way as every time essien got hit, he got hit by a barry/de jong sandwich.

Silva kicking seven shades out of Ivanovich was hilarious. Yes he's only small, but I don't recall seeing Dickov shirk a challenge, either

His way of telling Ivanovich to watch his elbows. Nice to see him taking care of himself, he'd get booked away though. Thought the ref did well there: "you're even now, but don't do it again" (he might have said).
