Come on mate that can not be a serious thought. How can you justify sending someone off in the 21st minute for exactly the same challenge someone else did a couple of minutes before. The game today wasnt ruined by the ref, it was ruined by an inexperienced defender making a silly decision. He will no doubt learn from it so we should have no complaints and move on.

No it isn´t - just an attempt to get people thinking - although my main premise of having games ruined stands so therefore perhaps FIFA/UEFA/FA should , god forbid , allow some semblance of common sense to prevail , instead of trying to fit everything perfectly into pigeon holes (tough ask, but Webb seems to get away with it)

Eh? Seriously? Where did you get the stat from mate? I really struggle to believe that...I was pissed off when I saw the ref on the piotch as I think he refs us badly, every time. Not having a go, just keen to see where this stat came from as it is stunning.

If the decision was so reasonable, assuming he was right, which I don't think he was from where I was sat, how many times in the history of the Prem, can anyone remember a 'big 4' player being sent off in such a big game, for a similar offence in that area of the pitch?

In fact how many have been 'let off' for similar, or worse, offences even in the 2nd half irrespective of subsequent complaints?

The idea that Cattenburg can be 100% sure the Arsenal player would reach the ball before Joe Hart & get a shot off is just bollox, he can't be sure, in fact I recon Hart was big favourite & the best Chamakh could have done is get a foot to it at a stretch, possibly getting a lucky break or causing a goal for someone else, but that's not a red card.

I recon a full speed replay would prove my point. Clattenburg had a choice; be sure before giving the decision or bet on a winner in the race. He chose to bet on Chamakh being quicker than Hart.

Old habits die hard for me...and being a biased blue and the environment I'm in certainly affects my opinion, both at the time and after.

Sat at home in my armchair, either on my own or with other trusted Blues....PROBABLY A GOOD DECISION.
In the pub after being at the game, with trusted Blues...QUIETLY...PROBABLY A GOOD DECISION.
In a pub during or after the game, surrounded by rags...LOUDLY...THE REF IS A BENT BASTARD AND NEVILLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SENT OFF.
At the groung in real time...AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE...THE REF IS A BENT BASTARD AND EVERY ARSENAL TACKLE FROM THEN ON IS A SENDING OFF OFFENCE.

It's just the way it flops around my head.

Red card all day long, no arguments from me, my mates, any City player or Boyata himself. Hopefully he'll learn from it. We were fighting an uphill battle from there on in but hey ho, you win some you lose some.

I was convinced it was a red at the time, but I sit over the Bell/North corner flag and so probably had the best vantage point in the whole ground. I also noticed Boyata's hands go straight to his head there and then - he knew it was game over.

Where I was sat, I didn't even raise a murmur about the pen but I was & still am, furious about the red card incident. I don't think I was just being biased. The ref needs to be 100% sure & in real time he can't possibly be. Slomo is no way to judge stuff like that, it needs real time replays to judge the speed of the ball. You can't guess a red card 4 mins into a game, it's not fair. I'm convinced I'll feel the same when I see it on tv, in real time, but I'm equally sure the slomo will distort it as it did with DeJong's challenge which was also in front of me in the same area.

That same attitude will prevail in my cab later today...depending on who gets in. I don't even have to give it any thought...those reactions come naturally....ALL PART OF THE FUN.

Where do you sit, Ted? Like I said I was sure he would go yesterday as soon as it happened. On the other hand, when Tevez was brought down against Newcastle I didn't have a clue what to expect. I think to be fair to Clattenburg he did seek assurances from the linesman who must've had a great view of it too. Boyata's hands-on-head resignation can't have helped his cause though.

I'm more or less behind the linesman but higher up & a bit to the left as I'm looking at it. I couldn't accurately judge the direction of the ball from where I'm sat, whether it was going toward Hart or the line, but I could judge the speed of it & distance quite easily & no way can anyone be sure Chamakh would reach it before Hart. If I was forced to bet, my money would have been on Hart. Imo there's no way would John Terry or Rio Ferdinand be handed a red card for the same offence.

Was there a suspicion of offside when the pass was played to Chamakh? We didn't manage to get a side-on view on Japanese telly (or perhaps I missed it cos I was too busy throwing things at the screen) but it looked quite close. I'm not saying it was, just that we'd benefit from seeing it again from the right angle. Any of you who sit along that side that can put me right?

That linesman on that side was a bit of a knob, I thought. Several wrong decisions over the 90 minutes with the vast majority, it has to be said, going arsenal's way. But I am heavily biased and that is the way it goes. He'd have got some serious abuse from me though had I had the good fortune to be there. But that's what watching football is all about. It is a sad day when you can't gratuitously insult an official.

clattenburg was clattenburg. You can't tell from one minute to the next what he is going to do. I don't think he is bent, just not that great - at either gambling or refereeing.

I think from memory that Boyata had dropped behind the rest of the defensive line, thus playing him onside. (Not surprising as he's a kid & rarely plays). Agree more or less on all other things re Clattenburg & the linesman but still recon he'd think twice about sending off Wio etc.

You're absolutely right. I was saying this to my dad and brother on the way home. My brother is blind to reason on City stuff and my dad is just blind. Both changed their minds after watching MOTD2.

Correct me if I am wrong, But I always thought that it was a red card only if a "Clear Goalscoring Opportunity" is denied. Dedders tackle was outside the box which in my eyes does NOT make it a clear goalscoring opportunity. I'm certain that there is no particular rule for a sending off when you're the last man. Unless you have denied the above.
