Joe Hart

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

A question, at what point do you drop a keeper in terms of mistakes made / types of mistakes made etc etc?

If Hart feels his No.1 spot is safe no matter what, then that approach does nothing for a meritocratic squad system and the players are "fighting for their places" type of mantra

He fucked up royally yesterday, his whole body language for the TWO mistakes he made for the goal showed a lack of focus and maturity. Unforgivable at that level and at that level of wages.

He fucked up royally against Blackburn at home for their goal and nearly allowed Bolton an equaliser by flapping around and missing the ball completely.

Of course he is a great keeper, but he is still on an upward learning curve and one way to learn is " sorry Joe, that's not acceptable, Shay is being Given a chance".

It would happen to any outfield player, why not a keeper?

It's very easy to say "he's saved us countless times this season"....well thats the only fucking job he has ffs.

so - you mention 2 mistakes and a "nearly" mistake. you ask why an outfield player would be dropped and not a keeper. well, for one - they are VERY different roles and for 2 - an outfield keeper would be allowed to make a certain amount of mistakes before they were dropped.

by the same maxim - tevez should certainly be dropped for the next game. as should everyone else apart from milner and de jong.

crazy talk.

I wasn't stating a maxim thanks very much. I was asking the criteria by which a keeper is dropped. Of course I mentioned his mistakes, that;s the whole point. How many or what type of mistakes are necessary for a keeper ( NOT AN OUTFIELD PLAYER) to make in order for him to lose his place.

No need to get all shirty

We should be building an ethic that only the fucking best is acceptable, yesterday was not, by any fucking means. Thats why we have a squad, it adds pressure to maintain your performance or lose your place

Peace

apologies - your post appeared to suggest that he should be dropped as he made a mistake? you said that it would happen to an outfield player but not a keeper? I was replying that an outfield player WOULDN'T be dropped.

lots of players had a less than acceptable performance yesterday - should they all be dropped? who allowed bamba to have free headers from practically every set piece? not hart, that's for sure.

there's not a keeper in the world that i'm aware of who doesn't embarrass themselves sometimes.

if, however, you'd bring in another keeper of equal or higher quality then i'd not object. can't think of many meself tho.

Sorry mate but it just doesn't work this way with keepers, they are massive confidence players, and if you drop them, their confidence will be shot, which takes a big edge off their performances. Not to mention that a keeper who has not played in months won't be used to playing games so he's more likely to misjudge crosses and the likes and make mistakes.

The keeper is the exception to the rule, you don't change them around if not for injuries or suspensions.

now i dont know if anyone else saw this, ive just watched game on my hard drive and when the cross came in, im sure that toure got a touch on it and it went at a different angle to joe, who judged it wrong and drop it. and also when we went forward and tevez passed to de jong, the ball was behind him when he hit the ball, so he couldnt get power into the shot

There is no fucking way we should be thinking about changing the keeper over half way into the season. Given himself said he is rusty now, and it would take him 5 games to get sharp, those are 5 games where we cant afford to start losing.

Hart will be fine, he can take the heat. ALL keepers have bumpy patches, and all come out of them better.

it seemed to me like he tried to make a "hollywood" save yest and fucked up, im sure he could of caught that or knocked it behind but got caught out. I think hes got very complacent lately where things have been a bit easy for him. In saying that no way should he be dropped, he just needs a kick up the arse about concentration, but he is def the right man for the job.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,

Hart was at full stretch to make the initial save, there was no way he could have held it (otherwise he would have!) If Kolorov hadn't chose that moment to have a nap they wouldn't have scored.

If you watch it again the ball bounces just as he is about to save it which IMO changes the save, if it doesn't bounce he tips it around the post or pushes it out wide and away to safety. I'm sure Joe won't be happy and it will be something that he works on this week with the GK coaches.

I'm not sure dropping him is the right course of action at this time as I don't think his game is as poor as some make out. I think the whole back line has had a blip in the last two weeks and it's something that they need to work on as a collective unit.

I'm doing a school cooking session with Joe on the 3rd Feb so I will make sure I ask him about this goal.

Agree with that Sis, and can you give him a few pointers as well, non-cooking related ;-)

A few more errors though and Given gets the nod. Interesting excuses for Joe yesterday, but he fucked up again.

Given shoudl start at Notts County, not necessarily because Joe has bolloxed a few lately, just to get him a game.

I wouldn't blame Hart or Kolarov, the ball broke perfectly for Bent. Not much anyone can do about that. Villa can't believe their luck. If Bent is so great why didn't he at least try and chase down joe's save in the second half ? That time the ball rolled slowly out for a corner....

The pass from kolo toure was worse, setting up the goal, he played a poor ball to Sylva when he didn't need to. I could forgive him if it has been in their penalty box , but it was deep in our half and unnecessary pressure on Sylva.

I completly agree. Joe has made a great save and the ball fell straight to the feet of the forward. Nothing much you an do except like you say, DON'T PLAY A BAD PASS OUT OF DEFENCE!

Also a minute earlier Tevez has missed an open goal from 1 yard out, now that IS AN ERROR!

Yes and as we know, in football, you can bet that if you miss a sitter , the opposition will go down to your goal and score. It seems to be an unwritten law.
