I think the story is true. The Telegraph quote a Liverpool spokesman saying Chelsea made a bid which was turned down. This story suggests a figure of £40 million. This suggests to me a degree of panic in the Chelsea hierarchy at the possibility of missing out on the Champion's League. It also suggests that Abramovic has not 'fallen out of love with Chelsea', not yet anyway.
As for Torres I would be gobsmacked if he isn't sold in the Summer. He won't want to miss out on the Champion's league two seasons running and let's face it for all the hype about King Kenny Liverpool are not exactly favourites for the top 4 next season. Why hang on to him now then? I guess they hope we'll be in there potentially paying even more in the Summer. Meanwhile they want some sort of respectable finish this season so they can offer replacements a credible chance of the Champion's League in 2012.
Will we be in for him? We might well. None of us knows what will happen to Tevez and Balotelli in the close season. Maybe they'll stay but none of us would be gobsmacked if at least one of them left the club. Torres could look an awfully attractive replacement for Tevez if that's what we're faced with. Not the same player but one of the best centre forwards in the world. To that extent I'm delighted Liverpool said no to Chelsea.
